Re: OP topic/non topic: Just read an article containing an interview with the automotive rep for CARB. Their "dream" is to have Californians out of single-occupant cars and into mass transit or otherwise ride sharing. That explais why they make owning a car such a miserable experience.
California may have a lot of restrictions as to modification and smog testing but they aren’t going to get that particular wishlist item.

Yeah, the subway lines, bus lines, above ground trains are all gradually improving and that is a good thing out there…. but L.A. and San Francisco will never be like Manhattan, NYC and neither will the rest of California. Even in NYC some people have cars amidst all the subway lines (it’s expensive to have one there and a PITA with parking but it is done).

California is too big with far too much distance between neighboring cities for one thing. I can see the train and subway lines eventually in some decades being much more useful for some commutes… but no public transit system can ever fully replace what a car or other vehicle can do.

And then there’s the ride sharing part of that wishlist. That also is not going to replace everyone owning their own private car. Why? It’s too damn expensive to use all the time, the pricing keeps changing depending on the day and hour of the day, it isn’t immediately there and waiting for you right now… and how about people who carry their work gear in their personal vehicles who work variable and very odd hours within the city and sometimes out to the middle of nowhere only to need to load back up and leave for home at 5am from Barstow all the way back to L.A.?

You’d go broke in less than a month using rideshare services for all of that.

So no… that’s not happening despite what that CARB rep said. The gradual shift to more EVs in California over time… yes. But an end to private car ownership…? No. Not by a long shot.

Rideshares are only good for those exceptional times when you need a lift to or from the airport, or to or from some venue in a very dense part of the city where parking is either a nightmare at peak hours or where you’d simply prefer not to park your car for fear of risk to it.

And there will still be plenty of non-EVs there for a long time operating alongside various EVs.

Classic vehicle ownership isn’t made easy over there but you’ll still see classics from various decades driving around almost everywhere you go.

Update:

Have a local lawyer hired to handle the case so I can live my life in the mean time. I have other cars so no real worry or time crunch anyway, just gonna hard park and put parts in it while I can't do anything with it.

maybe ill pick up a project car in the mean time, any thoughts? Kinda want to mess around with an FK8 CTR or a TRD off road 4Runner/Tacoma overland build. Would be kind of badass to have a rooftop tent setup with a fridge etc at the track on a hot day to get out of the sun lmao.

I’m at a loss for words on this, because of a noise tickets ( in a parking lot,I might add)
U are inconvenienced , or shall we say punished! In most states you’re given an equipment violation, given 30 days to fix and then, if you didn’t comply, And get caught driving said car, car could get impounded, and or BIG fine…… unbelievable ?

It used to be a fix-it ticket. You had a certain amount of time to either pay bail or have the ref test it and sign it off.
For some reason, they changed it.

Edgars at takeovers with their 24%APR straghtpiped 2002 Camaros and Zociety/VQnation was 50% at fault, people voting in shitty politicians was the other 50%.

I think you'd be surprised at how many jobs are just jobs, and not appointed or elected.
And that none of the politicians announce their views on the automotive industry while campaigning.

Your governor is very clear with his stance on the automotive industry. Even if that wasn't the case, people vote for politicians that clearly campaign on more government intervention/regulation. This is what happens.

I guess you're right, I forgot the ATF exists.

Well, then. Feel free to speak to all the individuals that voted for him. ?

You got a point, I'm just venting my frustration. NY and NJ copy whatever daddy Cali does and I'm just as powerless at preventing the fuckery.

My concern is that I keep reading how all states will eventually cave in. As long as they're gonna continue to basically blame global warming on our cars, there really is nothing we can do.
