You must be joking. As much as Virginia's personal property tax has made me consider moving to Maryland, the prospect of encountering even more awful Maryland drivers than I do on a daily basis always keeps me from pulling the trigger.

That and their roughly 9% income tax compared to 6% in VA!

It’s a shame because Virginia is such a pretty State and rich in history! The no income tax states are really getting a lot of population influx. Hence looking at a 2nd home in TN over NC.

Didn’t realize cars could be taxed after the sale. Balancing the state budget is huge and not carrying a lot of debt obviously keeps the taxes down. Mega interesting thread for sure!

Good point, MD has local income tax. That's an extra $3000 on $100K of income. Would def be more than whatever I'll have to pay for the car.

maybe it’s because we simply aren’t terrified to drive 80mph and get a reckless driving charge. Va cops are the worst just after Va drivers

This thread is really making CA seem like a not so bad place to live. Although state sales tax did go up 1% today... we are now at 8.75%.

91 octane and getting pulled over and fined for aftermarket exhaust, no thanks. Many great things in Cali, comprehensive state regulations in automotive space is not one of them. ?

I got a ticket for reckless driving on the ICC in MD. Cops are the same as everyone else — some reasonable, som assholes. For what it’s worth, I find that state police — regardless of the state — are generally not as reasonable as county cops.
