actually, one of the latest rumors is that it may ship with 340hp for the first 1-2 years and then get bumped to 385. some of the meetings here in the US had the power level set at ~355hp for US models, but that VIN decoder thing has made everyone wonder what the facts are.

this rumor could explain why the earlier cars were testing with lesser power, but who knows. hopefully they aren't doing that...

in any case, if those cars are being shipped to Toyota City, then TRD or Gazoo might be doing something special with them as said. I'm not sure what they may be doing specifically however.
What's interesting about that is the Euro models of the 40i have the filter in the exhaust where as the USA model does not, according to RealOem atleast. If this filter restricts power like BMW says, how would they be the same power level with and without the filter? It would be nice to find a Z4 VIN to see what it is listed at according to the site

This must be it then...I mean, maybe Toyota has been prepping the Motomachi plant for some time now, and the "GR" version will be assembled or built there. It makes sense if the "few" chassis' (not the motors) are being shipped there. I am curious where the B58 motors will go? Can this be the lead we have been looking for about Yamaha's involvement too? Hmmm...

it would certainly be highly displeasing for several reasons if that was the plan. Unfortunately, there just isn't much of a way to confirm any of it other than discuss possibilities.

I would for sure be excited to learn there was a different motor/head or some level of involvement beyond 'yeah, they took a look at the head and said it was good to go.'

They could also be "Supra measuring"
Edit: seeing how it stacks up to previous Supras

Motomachi is where the Supras (A80) were made after production was transferred from Tahara (A60/A70) in the early 90s, and yes also where the LFA was made. It is generally regarded as a very high level facility and the ex F1 technical factory is housed there iirc (LFA used this afaik).
Where have GR cars been manufactured?

Might not Motomachi be tooling up for the GR-SS, or is that too far off?

they were supposed to be debuting a crossover concept or something IIRC, but that may not be this year. there are also a few other production updates in the pipeline, but I'm not sure where those fit in to different auto shows.

Production GR cars? All Japan afaik, but I dont think it's a specific plant.

A70 there was a SupraForum member stating that the lower spec would be called a Celica, and I believe Moto hinted about a celica with different/shorter bumpers, something along those lines. Was there any truth to these?

I remember there being discussions on one of the lower spec cars being a Celica and it would have a slightly different exterior, but I didn't think anything ever came of that.

If true, that's not something Im aware of, but I'd be super down for it.
