This shot really emphasizes the similarities in the rears of the two after 25 years of design influence. ( I still lol when I hear people say it looks like a z4)
That would be awesome like Nismo's Heritage Parts Program is doing for the Skyline R33 and R34 GTR's.THIS!! I am excited/hopeful that with the release and excitement around the MKV, companies will also start updating or producing new parts for the MKIV as well. Doubtful, but you never know
Can you please elaborate more on the similarities. I see more FT-1 and very minimal MKIV styling cues. I do see BMW cues with the dual exit exhaust (also from the FT-1), reflectors above the tips, 3d dome emblem, ducktail (both BMW influenced) and the tapered rear glass similar to the FT-1 but also rendered back in 2010.This shot really emphasizes the similarities in the rears of the two after 25 years of design influence. The FT-1's ducktail went up and not towards the rear.
True, I did mention it was a rendering but it was a reference to how the rear glass tapers like the E86.Thats not even a real BMW model, its a rendering of a hardtop E89
The quad exhaust and diffuser are by-products of modern styling, thats pretty much the status quo on any new sports car. Also that isn't a BMW styling cue, the entire industry uses diffusers and dual exhausts.
Reflectors hidden in the diffuser is also a modern design element that isn't specific to BMW
I am pretty sure the new Camry uses the same emblem on the front end.
The A80 and A90 duckbills goes both out at 45 with A90 being more obtuse on the up portion. We can get incredibly granular about the Z4 and FT1 duckbills but that argument ignores that the A80 (and A70) have duckbills of their own
As for similarities, I don't know any better way to say it than the A90 looks like the A80 if it were flexing. Lines become more pronounced and more aggressive, proportions exaggerated and muscular, and elements become meaner.
(I don't know why I wrote quad tips as a synonym for dual exit)Again, I don't see it. When I see the MKV rear, I see a heavily inspired FT-1 rear end and very little MKIV.
Oh ok. True, there are a few cars that transition to the next generation well but most tend to deviate so much that it could be qualify as a completely different model. IMO, Toyota is one of those who like to change it up so much.(I don't know why I wrote quad tips as a synonym for dual exit)
I am not talking about physical similarities, I am talking about how the design similarities of the car has transformed over 25 years. There's no way they would look remotely similar after all this time, very few 90s cars have profound similarites with that respective model today.
Unfortunately for the Supra, 16 years being out of production means it has lost 2 generations to make the gradual design transition from the 1993 design to 2020 design.
If we imagine the FT-1 being a MK4.5, then we can more easily see the transition from MK4 -> FT1 (MK4.5?) -> MK5.
So with that mindset...since concepts are open books, are we waiting for the R36 to look like this?!Oh ok. Most would agree (myself included) that the FT-1 was destined to be the next Supra because it was rolling art. I know it was exaggerated but it was something from Calty. It had a very nice wide and low exotic stance, it looked like it was very fast and ready to destroy any car that pulled up next to it. It had a very race-oriented and luxurious interior. All presented in glory and immediately blessed by those who saw it. Yet didn't look anything like the MKIV.
