This is a good chart of what to look for. A lot of people with Supras like the Nankang CR-S, and the Kumho V730's. Otherwise there's been a lot of discussion on it in the "race tracking your Supra" thread of what people use and why

Who are the people that like Kumhos? They admit that out loud!?

??
Oh hell yus, gimme some Kumhos. They’re not bad at all. Especially if you still want to hear the tires before they break away. If money were no object, R compound. But never start with that @Drnick in the beginning. You won’t be able to hearing a thing.

So yeah, I‘d say those Kumhos look like a great tire to start with.

A square setup is going to save you the most money and you’ll still get a lot of grip. Lots of options in that dept:

Thanks I’ll check kumhos out, but doing a square setup on stock size rims? That would mean different size rims that are either all
9.5” or 10.5” on 19” or 18”

In the "Endurance 200s" I can talk about a couple of tires.
- Conti ECS (the newer 02 version that came out fall '22)
Quiet on the street, excellent in the rain, very good tire wear/durability, "OK" for feel on turn in and under high grip situations, pure mechanical grip just isn't that great, gets hot and greasy QUICK. I'd say the ECS02 would be pretty slippery at the end of a 30 min HPDE session.

- Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (Ancient tire...been on the market for years, but does everything well and nothing great)
Quieter than the ECS02 by a teeny bit, similar in the rain, better feel than the ECS02, similar wear to the ECS02, similar mechanical grip than the ECS02, gets greasy a little LESS quick than the ECS. Would still be fairly greasy after a 30 min session...just a little less so. You do pay the Michelin tax on these - not cheap.

- Hankook RS-4 (Also ancient, much more track focused, less streetable)
These are LOUD on the street with a little wear, they are good in the rain with full tread (not as good as the previous 2), mechanical grip is a lot higher (I'm biased...and I have HUNDREDS of laps on these), they are MUCH more heat tolerant, they wear like IRON, feel is similar to the other two, but this is just a FAR more track-focused tire. I have run these for years on 2 very different LeMons car (DA Integra, Foxbody Mustang GT), and they just take a beating and come back for more. A tire like the Hankook will get hot and greasy, but if you back off a lap, they come back.

These are much closer to the "fast" 200 TW tires like the RE71RS or the Yoko A052, they just aren't as fast, but they wear FAR longer. Excellent HPDE Track tire...crappy daily driver tire.

Only one tire in that list is a 200TW, the RS4.

The Conti ECS is 340TW and the Michelin PS4S is a 300TW

How long are you wanting the tires to last and, realistically, how important is an all out lap time?
Are you more interested in doing a full 20 minutes session versus getting that one quick lap?

Yup, Bryan is correct on the TW. I think everyone here knows this, but I'll say it for clarity..treadwear isn't some objective rating method with lots of engineering behind it. It's really an "honor among thieves" rating method, at least down in the 200TW area. The 200TW stuff is really about the most aggressive tire you'd want to drive on the street that is theoretically capable of handling rain, minor road hazards (potholes), and not wear out in 1k miles.

Comparing a "real" daily drivable tire like the PS4S or the ECS02 to the Hankook or any other 200TW is apples to oranges.

Great take on the tires above ☝

Have you tracked the Maxxis RC-1s? I got some by accident (so to speak). Bought some wheels from a race team for my MX5 and those damn tires came with it. They told me there was enough tread on them and no need to take the tires off. I drove on them and never looked back since ❤

Even more crazy, I found the Apex tire guide and saw the Maxxis Victras were available for the square 275 setup and hottttttt damnnnnnnn… I went and bought a set of Apex wheels ?

yeah stock is not square. OEM tires and wheels are fine for learning track days. If getting serious about track days you would already be sq
This is the way @Drnick
