Man Subaru really screwed Toyota on the partnership by being so reluctant to keep pushing out new models and variants. Hope the Toyota-BMW relationship doesn't end up the same way where one side has control over what the other one does with their car.
Was this a Subaru issue? I thought Toyota decided there wasn't enough demand for it...

Maybe that's the ultimate reason for it, but early on when there was all this talk of Toyota wanting to do more models and stuff, it was also rumored that Subaru wasn't on board so Toyota couldn't just do it by themself.

Pretty but maybe a weight or performance penalty unless they design the car ground up to also be a convertible.

If it gets a carbon fiber monocoque as rumored there be a weight or performance penalty and no need for a structurally enforcing roof.

I wouldn't mind seeing a hard top convertible like the SC430 and IS C.

Instead of a traditional convertible I'd like to see a spyder version instead. A car this beautiful would look completely exotic in spyder form.

Look at the Alfa 4C Spyder, R8 Spyder, 458 Spyder, Mclaren 650s Spyder. All completely gorgeous.

Weird, directly contradicts Tada's words about a convertible 86 in this video from just 3-4 months ago.

He says it's coming...

Next Toyota Supra: Convertible Trim Reserved For Lexus?
http://nseavoice.com/cars/next-toyota-supra-convertible-trim-reserved-for-lexus-920025194.html#

The next-gen Toyota Supra is being built alongside the BMW Z4 and it is fully expected to come out running on a 450hp hybrid setup that is sourced from the Lexus LC500h. This is a likely outcome as we don’t expect Toyota to tailor make another performance hybrid just for the Supra.

Also, knowing that the Supra is being pieced together with BMW, it is unlikely to get a topless structure. This is something that is fully reserved for the BMW Z4 hence Toyota will need to look into other models if they wish to have a convertible for the hot summer season this year.

Well, today it looks more likely for the 2018 Lexus LC to go topless after its head engineer, Takashi Watanabe, revealed that the GA-L platform can support a convertible setup. The lad also pointed out that it has been a while since Toyota produces a convertible and they are interested in doing so now.

With that being said, we can start expecting the LC500 to get a convertible trim coming out in the near future. But of course, a concrete confirmation is needed before we can be certain about it.
