I hope they sell a boat load of these cars. Better chance of getting a next gen A100! ?
Exactly this! This is why the partnership makes sense. Less weight on them initially, but the sales should be encouraging to the company that they can start building on their own as well.

Wasn’t the MKIV like 44k sold worldwide from 93’ to ‘02? If so, the MKV has sold almost half of that in just two years? Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
Well US A90 sales have surpassed total US A80 sales in just under two years.

But it should be more than half IIRC.

" owners are all over 70 " -- shots fired!! haha..

I thought it was because the Avalon looks like every other 4 door car on the market. You wouldn't notice if it hit you at the red light.
You know, that's a good point. I don't notice every Avalon on the road like I don't notice every Malibu on the road.

Less than three years into its lifetime and the MK5 has already sold close to 50% more than what the MK4 did in it's nearly six year lifetime...
You are comparing US sales to global production.

There are 11,239 US MKIVs
6977 were Turbo US MKIVs.
Globally 45,223 MKIVs made 92-2002.

US MKV is 18-19k sales so far.

IIRC Toyotas MKV goal per year was 12k globally and 4k in the US.
I have no idea what the actual global numbers are.

They stopped production of the mkiv in 1998 I thought… not 2002

If they can source another straight six closer (Japan) then they will go that route. However, I still have my bets on the V6TT from the Lexus’. Not a bad thing at all, but news is a closed deck “stronger” V6 block is in the works. It also coincides with the news I heard of the Tundra/Sequoia/LC getting a “stronger” block in the near future. Makes total sense and will help keep costs down for higher quality products. This will be interesting to see how it pans out.

If you're referring to Mazda, I don't have much faith in them having it be a solid successor to the B58. I think Toyota can now make a business case of building their own inline-six given the sales that the A90 had and can only see that as the successor to the B58.

Otherwise, I fear it's a twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid.
