If this hits nearly 5k units for 2022 then it's a huge success for Toyota given how much of a disaster 2022 was for them.

I'm sure there are a vast array of reasons possible... but the most obvious would be a difference in production shutdowns, shortages, etc. Although every brand is effectively a global brand at this point, the specific supply chains are different and some were more affected than others in 2021. Toyota had stockpiled a ton of chips pre-COVID so they weren't as affected in 2020... but then ran out during 2021 apparently. So probably best to compare 2020 Ford to 2021 Toyota in that regard.
Not to mention that Ford sells far fewer vehicles... they sold 1.9 million worldwide in 2021, while Toyota sold 9.6 million in the same period (just Toyota branded... 10.5M if you include Daihatsu and Hino). So a 27% increase in monthly sales for Ford is around 43,000 more vehicles... while a similar number would mark only a 5% increase in the average month for Toyota.

The Supra is a halo car; how much it sells itself is almost irrelevant. Rather the question is if the Supra helps consumers visit Toyota before Nissan. And Nissan rolling out a new Z is your answer.
