I know there is a commercial wired solution available on here, but after investigating it, I honestly don't think it is worth the effort.

I know its a long shot, but I was thinking.. if the signal from the trunk/boot release button isn't subject to the usual rolling code security, could this signal be easily cloned to a new after market fob?

Has anyone managed to clone this signal to a new fob?

Why would you need a new fob? The oem fob has trunk release button.

Why? Well I'm glad you asked. ?

If the trunk release button signal can be cloned, then you could very cheaply and effectively create an exterior trunk release button.

My idea is to wire a small water proof button to the new (cloned) keyfob circuit board. This button can be fitted in a discrete spot externally while the new cloned keyfob's circuit board (with its battery, etc.) could be hidden behind a panel in the trunk. As it is self powered and keyfob batteries last a long time, regular access isn't even required.

I like to do this with garage openers (all internal obviously) for an OEM+ finish.

This is only feasible if the trunk release signal can be easily and inexpensively cloned.. Unless you want to gut an original key to achieve the same effect, which I certainly don't want to do!

Thoughts?

Does the trunk release button inside the car trigger without the key present? If not, wouldn't it be easier to wire a momentary switch directly to that instead?

I’m sure what hassle you’re mitigating with this idea over the current market solution.

There is a guy that makes exterior release buttons. Unlock the car, hit the button, problem solved.

How would this be secure? If the cloned keyfob is connected to an exterior button. Can't anyone just go and unlock the car and gain access/ or any car thief tap into the signal of the duplicated fob and access your car?

Well, it's only the signal for the boot release. And if I wanted to make it more secure I could add it to a non-standard location. ?‍♂

If you're talking about the solution peddled on here, installation is a fucking nightmare by the looks of it. This is a much simpler and for my money, elegant solution. Less expensive too!

Key would be present but in my bag or pocket.

Has anyone tried cloning the trunk unlock button?

Just get the key lock set for your doors.
Install them on trunk.
Open trunk with key in the fob.
Problem solved.

You're going to need to break that down further? Do you mean to say purchase or use a second original keyfob?
