I'm just blurting an idea. Don't know if it'd work or not. In theory it should.
So get this set

Somehow install it in the trunk, use your original key to unlock...

Hmm.. not sure how this would help? Unless I am missing something - not unusual lol - Rather than an extra lock, the project needs an extra unlocking mechanism, ie: a keyfob or a clone thereof.

Yes indeed, needs some tinkering but if you get the lock for your VIN or whatever, you can use your existing keyfob.
This would be the most OEM solution..

I don't follow. The trunk lock and original keyfobs already work together. Hmm.

What I'm proposing is, kind of what Albon did with the push button. You'll still need to run wires.
But, instead of that security hole, I'm proposing, duplicating the driver side lock key hole which you can use when battery is dead with the key in your keyfob and put this lock in the trunk.
You'll unlock that with the key, instead of the door, it'll pop the trunk, in theory.. Don't know what wires/can lines you'd need to tap in.. just hypothetical..
I don't know, it could be that I'm not making sense. juggling many things...
Yeah, I don't know how you'd attach the cable not wire that pulls and opens the lock.
Forget it. if it was easy to figure out Toyota would have lol. That's not true. They didn't care for it.

Hmm.. I saw the Albon solution a while ago but it's just too involved. I might just buy a cheap aftermarket fob and see if I can use it to clone the boot release button. I'm hoping this signal has reduced security.. but I think its a long shot.

I know that if I just buy a new Toyota key, have the dealer code it to my car, I could butcher it to create this project really easily.. but this answer has a very high cost and far greater security implications. Ugh.
