My 6870 kit just landed and I don't want to run the turbo without some type of protection. I am stuck between a filter and turbo guard. The two biggest questions I have right now are how much power am I going to lose running a filter, and am I being too anal thinking I need a filter and should actually be using a guard? Would love to hear opinions on what folks are running out there.

Never run just a guard bro, just the slightest rock or small object and it will tear the wheel up. Always run a filter.

Ran the Turboguard SF+ in my last set up and never had an issue. The kind of debris that will go through there would basically be dust and pollen.

Understand your environment. My state has pollenacolaypse. So I put a filter on until nature decides to stop shooting semen in the air.

If you live where it is always dusty, then run a filter.

If you are running a Turboguard for daily use... then I'd advise against it.

Always run a filter. Running a mesh is just asking to sandblast your turbo's comp wheel, turbo bearing+shaft, and cylinders.

Don't do it.

All good points, just ordered a 4" filter. Not going to risk it with a turboguard.

Get a filter. I went with Burger Motorsports for my 6870.
I ordered the exact same one in the same color. It's nice to have the clearance for a full size filter!

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that you actually lose power with mesh vs. using a velocity stack filter.

I'd bet money it's immeasurable or bullshit

Do you feel like your turbo spools faster with the NGR?
the reality is that it's all going to be negligible without some pretty sensitive equipment

How in the world is that a 20 micron filter when I can drive a truck through the gaps in the mesh? 20 microns is smaller than a white blood cell.

Yeah that’s some real good snake oil there. You could sift Gold through that mesh.
