Now is definitely not a good time to buy a car unfortunately, it's a sellers market. I bought my 2020 brand new back when covid first hit so I paid way below msrp (think $40k range). Nowadys dealers are marking up everything; seeing a MKV go for $60k+ is pretty much the norm. Sure if you have the money I'd say go for it, however, once the market unfucks itself, you'll now be in a hole once you go to trade up. As someone who works in finance, I'd never put myself in a situation where I have negative equity but as Gen Z would say, "you do you boo".
This is exactly what I'm afraid of. I know myself and I know how quickly I get bored of a car. Being so upside down in a car that I can't feasibly get out of it is not a situation I want to be in.

There's also the thought that this market will not correct, numerous manufacturers have indicated they have no intentions of ramping up production even if they have the means to do so. The lack of supply, even if artificial, could lead to these inflated prices being somewhat of a new norm in the market.

No matter what people say there’s still chip shortages and that’s not stopping anytime within the next year to 2 years. Anyone who says otherwise clearly does not work in the automotive industry.

You should never ever buy new then if that's the fear.

As for production ... Well, dealers used to sell cars for $1000 profit. Now they can flip them for 10k over MSRP... A lot easier to find 1 buyer than 10.

I’m ready !!!! But until I find a dealership willing to sell at MSRP , the wait continues.
at the end of the day you have to boil it down to the basics..

If I were a man who was looking to justify the purchase of a Supra for its resale value, I would fall back on my Instagram education which tells me that “Racecar” spelled backwards is “racecar” while “Bankruptcy” spelled backwards is “yctpurknab”.

one makes sense and one doesn’t.. it’s as simple as that..

Personally, I’m buying the Supra because I like it.

Do not buy sports cars/expensive things if you're worried about money. lol.

Same , I don’t buy cars to resell . Actually ended up buying a brand new 2022 Supra under MSRP with all the dealer installed add-ons just after the post. The point of my post was that I want the car to enjoy, but was patient enough to wait for a good deal to present itself.

How long are you planning to keep the car?
Hi All. Currently looking at buying an MKV Supra but I am very worried about getting into one when they are most expensive and watching the bottom fall out as soon as the car market corrects.

What's the general consensus on how well this Supra will hold it's value? I know it's still a bit early in this generation's life cycle but seeing on how this car is really a BMW, will it depreciate like a BMW?
How long are you planning to keep the car?

Nice! If you don't mind, may I ask how much off MSRP you were able to achieve, and how much $ worth of dealer-installed add-ons there were? Thanks!

While my crystal ball works about as well as everyone else's, I'd suggest that with the impending end of the ICE age, enthusiast sports cars like the Supra have good potential to hold, and given enough time, increase in value.

Manual transmission variants in particular will hold their value better because they are both traditional to the type (read: nostalgic) and will become extinct when electric cars rule the roads.

Beyond this, if Toyota is correct in claiming that only 25% of MKV Supras sold will be of the manual variety, this will make that variant rarer still, thus boosting its likely value.

..Or maybe not. ?

I feel like the price of the MK4 Supra is a strong indicator that MK5’s will hold value but that’s just me. I’m buying to drive the heck out of it while we still can

The biggest test will be seeing how the platform does between 50k to 100k miles. After 100k I expect the plastic parts to wear significantly and that's where depreciation will bite down hard. Fortunately by that time if there is still an aftermarket community parts both OEM and custom should be plentiful.

I got my 2022 3.0 premium for MSRP almost a year ago, and Carvana is currently offering me more than what I paid for. Take that for what its worth.

The market will come down. It's already slowly coming down. Those who are patient and aren't in need of a car right away will benefit the most from this.
