There is a pin that connects the solenoid to the valve flap. Without that pin, the flap can freely move. And the pin just rests in a slot of the solenoid. I see some exhausts like the awe fake out the solenoid by bolting it to a bracket they include in which you add a fake pin and ziptie it to the body... i also see people going to great lengths to disable the flap opened. Is it really needed? If you stay with the stock exhaust cant you just disconnect the pin and secure the flap opened? Then the solenoid and turn and turn and nothing. Likewise with exhausts like the awe, cant you just leave the pin out and bolt it to the bracket and be fine?

for reference the link below is the install instructions for awe, wouldnt leaving the pin out do the same thing so who cares if the valve started opened or closed, the solenoid wouldnt touch anything when it moves.

what am i missing?

Not sure about the AWE exhaust, but with stock can't you just leave the flap open and disconnect power to the solenoid.

That said, can't you just use the car system to set "sports exhaust" on?

I have the AWE exhaust and yes they do have a special bracket they make. I have seen a person (on youtube, so take it with a grain of salt) just put it in sport so the valve opens and then remove the pin. That way when you hit the button the solenoid just turns and the pin does not engage so nothing happens, so I don't believe you are missing anything. However, I have not tried this myself.

Awe let me know that without the pin the actuator will just spin and spin and throw an error so you need to add something that simulates a stopping point

With your US spec Supra please confirm this:

At a standstill, pressing the Sport button will open and close the exhaust valve

???

The answer is no it wont move. When i took off the factory exhaust i forgot to leave the valve opened and the new exhaust bracket required it. I sandwiched the valve between the fake out brackets and once the new exhaust was on i had to drive a few feet for the actuator to engage. In my case, the bar dropped into the bracket and all was good (i was able to do this without the help of anyone else) but i can confirm that thing isnt turning unless you press the sport button AND move the car more then a few inches.

The one I drove did. I got in, started it, hit sport mode and you heard the valve opening.

strange, i made the attempt to get the valve aligned without having to jerryrig the bracket and computer said no, and continued to say no until i moved the car

My ME spec btw does not cycle the valves based on drive mode during standstill like the video above

Guess its programmed differently

Yes I think so, mine is the same as yours, it appears the Aussie are the same

I want to try to find out if it can be reprogrammed via BM3 to be the same as the US spec otherwise no point getting a Valved exhaust like a Boost logic if we can't close the valves to make it quieter ????

I’m going to rip this thread outta of the dead! Has anyone found a way to always have the stock valve open? Even coded always to start in sport mode and the valve is closed when it starts. Sorry if this is beating a dead horse, but I can’t find a good answer for this…
Cheers!

Yep, there's some other thread or two around here that talks about it.
Basically disconnect the actuator while the valve is open and it will hold open forever.
