Was this a good ppf install?

I recently got a full car ppf (Xpel ultimate) and ceramic (Xpel) done on my A91 Supra. I was wondering if this is a good install. Out the door, ended up paying 5k plus tax. If it’s not good please don’t barrage with comments saying it’s not. Please tell me why. It’s frustrating having a bunch of people saying an install sucks and not saying why when you’re 5k out the door. The shop is also an 8 hr drive so I really hesitate in taking it back because of issues. This shop has done 15 Supras and is located in Miami. Very good reviews and nice facility with leds and dust controller room. Not certified because installer is not native. He’s matted out g wagons and done 911’s. Below are the pictures.

Seeing all these examples unfortunately makes me happy as I did it on my own and got better results out of it. It really isn't easy to get into the many crevices for sure, but a shop should have the tools, expertise, etc. to do a bang up job.
Even if I somewhat accept a few of those, 1st picture is unforgiveable.
I partially blame Xpel for their shitty pre-cut kit to allows for those gaps on pic 3 & 5...
They improved this since the launch. the kit I got, around the logo was a separate piece.

im glad you had better luck. The template is better now for sure. Then again, the front it quite hard to install. Could you maybe show some pics of your work? Just to compare and contrast a little. If you did better than a guy who does this for a living there is def an issue here.

At least for my area 5k is SUUUPER cheap and I think for that price I would expect about that quality but there are a few areas I would deem egregious. My three PPF shops I asked for a quote were 7k, 7.6k, and 10k before tax. Seems like it's a mix of the template for supra being difficult to get right and the installer's skill to install well. I went with the 7.6k shop and honestly I wasn't happy with some of the work, it wasn't as bad as yours but I had them redo the hood (and they fixed it) because there was dust stuck under it in extremely noticeable spots. They also retrimmed some of the edges I pointed out.

I still spent 1-2 hours checking everything and tucking edges myself with water/soap mixture and a heatgun. If they warranty their work from peel back in the future I'd probably get that in writing and just deal with it. I did actually take a razor knife and cut some excess in areas myself in areas like image 14 where dirt was gathering and the film was not laying down.

In regards to specific places I think are out of scope even at the price point, if you want to bring it up would be fitment around the badge but redoing that would be a full redo of front bumper. A picture of the full area around the badge to see how much off center it is around the whole area would be helpful.

The gas cap and area around the gas cap are pretty bad. That gap is half a centimeter to 1 cm wide. The relief cut in Image 13 is pretty bad. And Image 16 looks like a 1-2 cm gap with the edge.

I did half PPF and double ceramic and it cost $5500.

It doesn't look like yours. There are a few areas where you can notice seams if you get REALLY up close. And the areas around the front sensors started to peel off and they replaced it for free. Your right to question this work. Show it to the owner of the shop.

Looks like they gouged the paint here. This install is completely unacceptable.

8 hours away is the trouble here.

I think the right move here is to come to some agreement with the shop that installed it and have them pay for the repairs at a shop that is more local to you. Provide these photos as evidence. I'd definitely start the conversation out friendly, and escalate from there. Worst case, file a chargeback on the credit card. You have more than enough proof that the installation wasn't completed correctly.

Did you pay on a credit card? I sure hope you did. I’ve had full PPF done on multiple cars, on my dads RR ghost we paid 6k including a full chrome delete and it was done at our house with lifetime warranty it was noticeably better then this, lots of local guys to me have PPF on their Supra’s and it looks better. 5k is not the most expensive quotes I’ve seen but it’s not cheap. This a 3-4K Job max. These issues are not gonna be easy or some even possible to solve without all new film. Have shop pay for transport back to him From GA to Miami and if it’s not fixed. Charge back credit card ?‍ Best of luck

Mid range price in my opinion. Had a guy local that quoted me 5,500 for full wrap that would be better than this. He would have tucked less though and used more templates.

The whole time through this process I’ve been only taking to the owner. Have brought some area of worry to light and he does not seem concerned. Just one thing he said “he didnt like (the air bubbles around the relief cut which are not shown in the pics) and gave my a solution of flatting with squgeee and taping down.

I've not taken closeup shots of my work, never really needed and sold the car months ago.
All I can tell you is as I inspected the template beforehand, I knew where the f'ups were going to be at. So, I paid extra attention to those mating points. Stretched them so that they butt up against. On few areas I overlapped then gently cut those portions..
Certainly, didn't dent, scuff or scratch any areas.
I will say thought, the fuel cap and logo, any area that needs to be aligned is a bitch. You have to start at those areas to align perfectly.. well, I take that back. you just need to apply tach solution, let it cool for few seconds and work on the rest.. it's a process..
In addition, I'm no expert, but looks to me as though they've not stretched anything. just laid things.
And that may be good enough to cover from damages, but certainly not a sight I would bare.

I hope that’s not from a razor blade. It catches my fingernail. I think it might be. I could fox it up it’s dr color chip I believe. Not worth a respray.

Unfortunately, this car is very curvaceous while also having very sharp edges. It’s probably best to take these cars to installers who have experience with them.

I would honestly try to get it removed and your money refunded ASAP. Don’t want a crap PPF job stuck to your paint for too long.
