I didn't get my Supra right when they came out, but how is the worry and skepticism about the xHP tune any different from an ECU tune? It seems like everyone started jumping on the ECU tunes the first day they were released. Why is everyone so worried about the TCU tune or am I missing something?
I think concern is that the V1 tunes might cause excessive stress on clutch packs and drivetrain, especially for the fast boys.
There are some dangerous features in there like drag mode that could cause chaos in your transmission as it removes all safety parameters and just tries to shove it in gear as fast as possible.
Same with line bump. Increasing pressure in those plates could wear the clutch packs extremely fast especially at high load. A little slip is better than the alternative of grinding those plates down.

Fair enough!

I've been waiting on this because I'm looking forward to something else I can spend money on that will potentially damage my car and make very little difference in actual performance. I haven't read all 10 pages of the thread. I'm on page #4. I also haven't read any of the product's documentation. Basically this is a #lazyweb post for me.

Has anyone performed this upgrade who coded in Sport+ mode previously using Bimmercode? How does this upgrade interact with that mode specifically? Do the new values only apply if the transmission is set to Comfort or Sport, with Sport+ becoming obsolete, essentially? Has anyone attempted the upgrade using the OBDLink MX+ adapter? Does it work? Do I really need to buy the MHD Orange Wi-Fi adapter? I appreciate any answers anyone can provide, but I honestly hope everyone is too busy out there driving to do so!

I have mine in sport plus before I flashed. I don’t bother using normal mode for transmission or engine unless I’m in full normal mode for efficiency. I’m not the best person to tell you of the differences, but I can tell you now my car is angry on manual downshift. The throttle blips+sport plus mode on engine gives some nice pops and bangs even with stock exhaust, AMS downpipe, and tune.

oh and I think only the specific dongles that XHP says will work are recommended. Flashing with unsupported hardware sounds like a bad time waiting to happen.

Thank you for the response. Out of curiosity, do you know if the xHP flash unlocks Sport+ mode on its own? Makes no difference to me, just really more curious than anything. Just ordered the MHD orange adapter and bought the tune pack, so should be up and running in a couple of days. I don't have a high horsepower setup (this all reminds me that I have a JB4 sitting in the garage to be installed - only a JB+ and bolt-ons on the car now) and am looking forward to the faster shifts. I'm glad to hear (pun!) this will change the aural experience when driving the car (i.e., more aggro sounding up/downshifts). Because while @zrk is a total kill joy, for some reason, I derive a lot of enjoyment from a car as a result of the noises it generates. I always have. I'm looking forward to what this will all sound like with my AA catted downpipe and AWE track exhaust. It's already pretty nasty sounding.

EDIT: If Toyota ever has a TSB that reflashes ECU and TCU settings back to stock, I will never be able to get everything setup again the way it is now, or will be after I do this xHP flash and dick around with the settings.

I think not, but don't know for sure. This should be easy enough to do with your OBDLink module+BimmerCode. I also did a bunch more fun stuff like coding in the i8 chime, coding out the seatbelt warnings, start in sport mode, flash emergency lights on hard braking, M sport logo on startup, high brightness display with iDrive downgrade, removed piped-in sound to improve stero quality and driving experience.

I've flashed my car with XHP about a dozen or so times, I think if you get the brake recall done, or some other TSB that results in a reflash, you could just break into it again. Unless Toyota and Bosch patch the exploit XHP is using. It's always a cat and mouse game between hackers and software engineers employed by these companies.

I've done most of this stuff, including the Sport+ mode coding, but I've not run across mention of flashing emergency (side marker?) lights on hard braking. Can you tell me a little more about that and where I can find it in the settings via Bimmercode? Not trying to hijack the thread - sorry.

I followed pretty much everything he did for his BMW:

I don't know for sure if my brake lights themselves flash under heavy braking (never seen it happen myself).
But I can tell you now when the rare occasion happens I need to jump on the brakes hard, I come to a stop and find my emergency lights already on.

PS. They seem to turn off on their own too after a few seconds of not breaking hard.

You can always opt out like me. I’m not paying for bench unlocks and cal file updates for every Toyota ECU/ TCU software release…screw that.

I totally get that - especially if it were a dedicated track toy. They don't seem to be that frequent for this car, though. Which I guess is... good? I say this, but I'm not on the flashed ECU train yet, though. Just a piggyback. Maybe I'll feel differently when I do the eventual unlock and flash, get hit with a TSB, and then have to pay for everything again.

You could do the Femto clone option, then you would know for sure if you pull your cloned ecu that nothing will happen to erase the tuned one.

As far as I know, no one's blown a clutch pack seal yet, but 10000x will wait for a few updates before I pull the trigger.

edit: I write (well wrote, I'm just an architect [read: glorified manager] these days), but I know how bad humans are at writing software. I'll wait.
Me and you are on the same boat. Just gonna sit back and let the people work out the kinks.

Yo so uhh, your signature says the MHD adapter is Black but ummm.... In this thread it's actually Orange. :spaz:
