in fact, let's take that 67k and add the stuff that comes standard on everything else:

-Self adjusting LED headlights
-2 way adjustable seats (full leather)
-PDK (closest to auto)
-Adaptive cruise control
-Lane assist
-Auto dimming mirrors
-Dual zone climate

= $78,750

and there's TONS of other stuff that can be added...
Hopefully it's possible to get the Supra without some of these things. I want to drive, not be told by the car how to drive.

yeah, up to 80k in today's money adjusted for inflation... sure, there are differences to be sure, but that's a lot more money than this.

there's something out there for everyone. I personally am unlikely to buy the new Supra based on several factors, and if I do it will be a GR trim (after I dump 1-2 of my other cars).
I would loved to see more powerful and track ready version to the 86/BRZ that could meet in the middle with regards to pricing. I had a BRZ and it was just awesome. However the lack of support/model offerings from Subaru and Toyota left me wanting more. You can tack on lip kits and change the wheel color all you want but I wanted more performance.

So I decided to get something else.

$55k for 340 HP? Even at 2900 lbs, sorry man. Great balance or not, even though I can afford it, that is just not going to get it done for me.

Hopefully 55k is the GRMN price and hopefully the GRMN version is putting out higher HP and overall a generous track like package to justify that price.

Otherwise the standard version (340HP) needs to be in the 40's for me to buy it. All speculatively speaking of course.
Yeah, like A70 said, you're gonna have a bad time if that's how you feel.

Just a word of advice, if you judge a car by the amount of horsepower it has vs. the experience it actually provides, then you're never going to be happy. I personally will never form an opinion worth sharing about a car until I have real seat time in one, and many of the cars that top the HP/$ list are ones that are hardly worth one's time.

@Guff would you buy it at 55k-58k at 340 HP if it offered you a great drivers feeling? Or would you feel like you're probably not getting the best deal? Especially if you could hop into a well package low mileage used Porsche 911 or Cayman for that price.

I think a small part of me would feel like I'm not getting the best deal or bang for the buck.

Just to add,

The Jaguar starts at 60k, for 290 HP, for anymore....we talking lots of money.Even the top spec trim around 96k couldn't crack under 4 seconds. If a Supra can do so under 40k, then that's an embarrassment and a wake up call for the industry of luxury cars to double down on performance, which would mean the Supra would maintain its status for a good three or four eyars before a refresh as the automobile world adapts to this car.

The only car that can beat it would be the corvette, and would be a test of driving precision to edge each other out. Car is testing the market at that price brand new, not used.

can the corvette turn corners yet?

legit question, posed in a slightly cheeki way

What other cars sit in 55k bracket?
Focus RS?
A45 AMG/BMW M2/Audi RS3?

Helps me gauge relative to Au pricing

Not interested in buying it new, the v6 supercharged options perform great. Even a 350 HP a 370Z Nismo tops out at 45k weighing 3393 lbs. A supra with less HP and a curb weight of roughly 400 lbs less priced at 10-12k more? Come on bro.

M2 is 55k, Vette is 55k, RS3 os 55k, and A45 AMG is 78k

You also have to account for Toyota's efort to be in league with car safety standards and relaibility. We're talking a whole package. If you wanted a weekend car with little upkeep involved, then sure, get a used car, there would be plenty of options, but HP don't matter to me as long as it draws emotions.

Also I don't see how the hell I'm gonna use all that power on legalized streets anyway,

the Supra would absolutely annihilate a 370z in every way (0-60, 1/4, road course, etc).

you also cant compare used cars with new cars; apples to oranges.

Even the language used from a guy who driven one suggests this car is no joke and a worthy competitor.

Though, if it is 54k, imma have to save up for like two years

100% I would, if it drives how I've been told it drives. I have had the pleasure of driving many cars, including Caymans and 911s, Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, M3s, M4s, STIs, etc etc, and the closest thing I found to the car that I really wanted was in the Corvette and the Camaro, funny enough. The Corvette, however dynamic and competent, always seemed like it missed the playfulness I wanted from it. The Camaro, on the other hand, is a fantastic dynamic experience, and really does feel on its toes. It's a joyous drive honestly, but in the end, you can't escape the weight. Honest to God, if GM designed an FR sports car that targeted 3000lbs, I would consider it as much as I would consider the Supra, they are that on top of their game right now.

Anyways, I digress. 340hp can go a long way with the right chassis. I have had the pleasure of being able to connect with Toyota, and more specifically, Tada-San and his team, over the last few years during the development of the 86. And if there's one things those guys can do, it's build a freaking fantastic chassis. Keep in mind, I really don't like BMWs. I enjoy a few of their older cars, but I don't like their engineering focus, and I don't like the compromises they put into their cars. So, I share a lot of the apprehension that many on the forum feel. But my faith in Tada and his team is strong, because I have seen them create genuine magic, despite being thrown so many curveballs, many of which you guys never get to hear about. So, until the day that I sit in the driver's seat and am able to make a decision for myself on whether the car was a success or failure, I will continue to have faith in Tada-San and his team, and trust that they'll provide an experience that can live up to the hugely significant nameplate of Supra. Be that at 55k, 60k, 65k, or whatever the price is.
