You're really just talking about the experience of buying ANY used car, from literally any dealer. Not sure what makes you think Carmax is worse than any of the rest. And, for the Z, I'm pretty sure 2006 had the rev-up engine, which was widely known for oil consumption issues, even when I was looking at them back in 2008.

The RC F with the gravel coming out of the tailpipe... That doesn't even make sense.

Pre Purchase inspection - dealer or private seller matter not. Clean registration/records etc. Thats how you buy used.

LOL yes ON not out of - but I mean it was literally a shovel full every time... after about 10 times though it was sorted. I think the covers were completely full. Oh yeah, I forgot about the windshield shattering going over a speed bump too... but that's just RC-F construction I think... many others had the same.

Yes - by 2008 it was widely known... and finally admitted by Nissan. In 2006 it was not, and Nissan was fighting all of us quite desperately. They eventually did the right thing however, similar to what Toyota is doing with the MY21's with high consumption - they just took longer to come around.

It's not that Carmax is different in that sense (abused vehicles for sale)... but they used to claim to be different in all of their marketing materials. To be fair, they have cut back on their whole sales spiel where they would ramble on about "checking paint density on all body panels" and "running a more comprehensive diagnostic suite than a brand dealer would". I noticed the last time I was in there, they had also removed the example of a car they would refuse to buy, and the huge sign detailing the "Carmax difference" bullet points. So now they seem to admit they'll buy anything and try to sell it, just like everyone else.

I'm guessing someone from legal put a stop to that fearing a class-action at some point. Essentially the "Carmax difference" is only the non-negotiable price.

A Solid counterpoint. You’re absolutely right. This ‘no-haggle’ pricing dealers are doing now is such a crock of BS.

Whether it's companies marketing bugs/failures as features or car dealers "taking the hassle out of buying a car" by refusing to haggle on price - same crock different day. ;)

I had to re-read what he wrote too... I can't tell if he actually bought a Prius because it has a good navigation??
One of the reasons I bought the particular model I have is for the navigation, not the only reason. I have owned 4 Prius since 2005. Hope that makes things clearer.

With prices at Carmax and Carvana being the same as new, why buy from them, especially when you can’t negotiate?
