I picked up my 2021 GR Supra 3.0 Premium in April. Every day since it has been an absolute joy to drive. Unfortunately it is time to say goodbye..

Having been offered $1000 more than what the dealer charged me brand new, I am trading it in for a Tesla Model 3 Performance. My expected delivery is September 18 - September 28.

It would be cool to have both, but that's not a possibility at this time.

Ironically, I’m contemplating the exact same two vehicles. Why the switch from Supra to model 3 performance?

1) Right now our household has just the Supra and my girlfriend's SUV. With winter coming the original plan since we both work from home was to share the SUV and store the Supra. Although that would work, I decided that I would prefer something I can drive year round (already ordered winter wheels/tires). I did not want the Supra to see snow at all, even though I have driven other performance RWD cars in the winter with proper wheels/tires.

2) There is something about the instant torque and acceleration that the Tesla provides, without any of the drama and noise. I rented one via Turo while on vacation in L.A. a few weeks ago and I loved it. I had no plans to ever modify or track the Supra, and for a similar cost the M3P actually outperforms it while being a bit less ostentatious. I find that oddly appealing.

I too am thinking about going for a Tesla if not the Lotus Emira. I was offered $5k more than I paid for my 2020 3.0 Premium brand new.

I already flipped 2 cars since the market started going insane around May. When was the last time any late model year used car had actual equity (not accounting for collectibles)? Take it and run!

I wish I got a damn Kia Telluride 2 years ago. Would've probably made 5 figures off that flip!

I can't support an EV purchase at this time. I know, I know. We will all be driving them eventually. I just want to take advantage of any ICE vehicle I can get my hands on until we are all living in the future.

I know what you mean about the torque. I test drove the m3p this past Saturday, nothing has ever given me that tunnel vision since I last rode 1000cc supebikes back in 2015. Thanks for the input!

Isn’t being loud and ostentatious part of the Supra experience? Teslas are like Prius’ here there is a plague of them everywhere.

I think in Wisconsin they only have cheeze and water slides.

The Supra experience is for sure being one of the most eye-catching special cars on the road for everyone around.

Agreed on Teslas in the PNW. Way too many around, just like the Prius, as a way of preserving the climate.

Please please please do not get a tesla, we are on 3rd Model X, between the terrible build quality and false range, they are terribly unreliable, We are about to lemon ours, everything is falling apart, the self driving does not work half the time, the doors stopped working for 2 days, no interior or external release besides the manual one under the speaker cover would work, parking assistance has failed, and the screen has now gone dead 3 times leaving the car stranded in the middle of the road twice and once on the highway. the axle has been replaced twice now for vibration and a bad motor on one wheel, Our first model x instantly was gone for 6 months for the door issue, and we were given a P90D, that one was the one with the least issues, only had to go in 2 times, but the first one was a little better than our current one, but still crap. we got a 21 Loaner that left us stranded 2 days in, and the loaner they replaced it with, the door sensors were broken and the screen would randomly go black as well as the gauge cluster no lights, it would drive though. Servicing is a terrible experience. As much as I hate to see a supra owner sell their car I understand market prices are insane, but all I can offer is a testament that the Tesla is not the answer, you will enjoy it for a couple weeks, the Tq is fun, but once the issues come, they come strong, some people report no issues at all, and maybe you will get lucky, but also a lot of owners idolize the car and claim it is perfect when it is not. Trust me stay away.

@NitroYellowMKV - that's always been my problem with Tesla. They make fantastic "concept cars" that you can actually buy and drive... but I've heard so many horror stories that I wonder if the final tally is even in the environment's favor with them. Sure you've got zero carbon emissions (until you factor in how that electricity was made) - but if you have to replace 100's of disposable parts made with rare/toxic materials, which mostly wind up in landfills I'd guess... who wins? The obvious answer is Musk of course, but I mean in the grand scheme of things.

I love the idea of a boutique automaker making it big. I love the perspective that EV doesn't have to mean slow and boring. However, outdated designs that continue to suffer serious problems aren't a compelling use case (for a DD at least). If they were finished like a luxury car, never drove into cops, and provided 10-15 years of trouble-free driving... I'd be sold even at slightly higher prices.

To be fair, some people have nearly perfect experiences... so it's difficult to tell beyond aggregate survey results like those from JD Power and Consumer Reports. It's possible that someone reading this forum would conclude that the MKV is literally a ticking time-bomb depending on which threads they read... so it's always a lottery to some extent with any car.

I've had a M3P for close to two years. Incredible car made even more incredible by replacing the heavy and fragile stock 20" wheels with lighter and smaller wheels. Never had a problem with it and it's never been in for any kind of service...and maybe it never will. My new Supra looks a lot cooler and while I see a dozen Model 3s every time I drive somewhere, I've never seen another Supra. The cars are fun in different ways. The M3P is a video game version of driving. Will both stay in the garage? We'll see.

I just read that Tesla will not be able to bring new models(Roadster, Cybertruck) to market until 2023 at the earliest because of so many problems.
