Has anyone else's Supra been a gateway drug?

I'm never buying another BMW.

My mom's 2017 X3 suffered engine failure on 2/18/23 due to the timing chain snapping. It only has 58,323 miles and has regularly been serviced at a local BMW dealership. The warranty expired on 7/22 and we were quoted $15,600 + tax to have a new engine installed.

I contacted BMW of North America (BMWNA) customer relations to see if they would do anything to help cover the costs of engine replacement. Today I was told since we authorized the replacement BMWNA won't cover anything.

I had a few BMWs in the past including a M3. So I knew they made great cars and I really never had major problems with them. But I am far from a BMW fanboy and am always trying new car brands.

Sort of. I've always been a big German car fan but I'd never owned a BMW. I'd always wanted a 5-series but never did had. After having the Supra and my unfortunate events with my Volvo being totaled, I went the 5-series route and bought an M550iX l last year. It's a fantastic car! I love my two Bimmers.

Had a 6 Series Convertible and loved it, so I was really happy to see the interior of the Supra. I think it's funny all the haters because of the BMW DNA. Did I miss when BMW fell off the list of cars people aspire to buy? All these people giving shit are driving what exactly?

I will say it was a bit of gateway on the turbo side though. I was always a naturally aspirated guy and this has really changed my views. Looking into working over the wife's 4Runner with a Magnuson now!

Didn't the N20 motor get an extended warranty because of the timing chain? I'm seeing 7 yr/70,000 miles quick searching Google.

Edit: looks like only covers up to 2015 models. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10142923-9999.pdf

Honestly Supra was supposed to be a placeholder for me after my C7 Z06 was totaled… originally wanted the Supra for a year or two and then go back to a C7 Z06 or ZR-1 but now i sorta want a G82 M4 never used to like BMW until now
Yea got rid of my 2017 ZO6 LOW milage the clutch went to floor Dealer says the low milage Corvettes the slave cylinder and Master brake system go bad from sitting I pulled it up by hand seems to work fine Dealer said when pulling it up by hand wont work for long you have it towed in you will have a 5000 dollar repair to fix Went to the Supra its a fast little runner very impressed styling is killer

I've been absolutely spoiled by bimmercode - being able to tweak and disable little nuisances is something I didn't realize I cared so much about.

We bought a Mazda3 and its basically impossible to mess with the head unit / system - would love to be able to disable the stupid "herpy derpy derr don't crash the car while using the infotainment" startup message or the immediate and urgent seatbelt chime which goes off as soon as you start the car, etc. Or making the "auto high beam" feature remember its last on/off setting...

When I replace the Supra someday it makes me want another BMW based car, or at least one with a similar system that can easily be tweaked over OBD2.

I always wanted a Z3 or Z4 M Coupe...and now I essentially have the best ever version of one :D

I always planned on putting future spouse in a VOLVO XC40 or XC60...but am leaning more BMW X1 or X3 these days.

I always wonder if it's just a coincidence that BMW's overall reliability (according to several publications) began to really climb around (and shortly after) the same timeframe that Toyota opened their doors and began sharing engineering secrets. This partnership goes MUCH deeper than most people know, and in BMW's eyes, the Zupra twins are almost relegated to "byproduct" status. What BMW really wanted, was inside access to Toyota's Hydrogen Fuel Cell & Hybrid powertrain secrets. In doing so, they also got access to Toyota's legendary R&D (nobody out-spends Toyota, at $30,000,000+ per day) centers and learned the philosophies behind what makes Toyota the global standard for automotive QDR. The Supra was simply Toyota's bargaining chip for the whole deal, and the rest is history now...

TL;DR: BMWs overall are the best they've ever been
