Hey guys!
My supra only has ftp intake pipe and charge pipe as well as a catless downpipe and is tuned with ecutek. Recently noticed that ever since I’ve went stage 2 with the catless downpipe my power hasn’t changed from stage 1 and honestly feels like it’s gone down. I use to do 40 rolls with Camaros and Mustangs and would gap them on stage 1 but now stage 2 I’m bogging. The car also goes into limp mode after 3 rolls and just today the check engine came on. I read on another forum that this issue was caused from fuel pressure drop and recommended port injection but those Supra’s were running pure 800s and e50/e85. I’m just in a simple 93 octane map. Any advise and help would be greatly appreciated.

This code corresponds with 130716 - VANOS, exhaust: Control fault, camshaft jams.

I believe this maps to the exhaust VANOS actuator. I'm not sure which one this is on B58TU.

What oil are you using?

OW-20 I believe. I haven’t changed the oil since I got the supra with 2071 miles and it has 3,600 miles right now.

You could try a 5W30 like Quaker State Full Synthetic and see if this goes away. There are reports of other oils resolving this code for other BMW VANOS models.

I have a feeling you’re getting the same code I get periodically and I haven’t been tuned yet to see how it occurs. If so it’ll be the exhaust camshaft

the vanos code is more than likely one of two things. The vanos solenoid or the vanos central. the valve takes a good amount of work and special tools to change. the solenoid take 2 minutes to replace.

Does it only happen after a gold start

For mine it happened on cold starts yes. No noticeable issues with idle etc and often times the code would go away when started cold later in the day. Other times it would have been a stored code but not always throw a CEL

I spoke to twistedtuning and this was the same issue I was having on my car which I posted a thread about awhile back. My car is currently at the dealership getting it repaired under warranty but more then likely it is the vanos central bolt.
you can replace the actuators as a preemptive check but more than likely it seems to be that central bolt.
mare you having the issue? I’m curious how many are

I actually just got that code yesterday. I’m currently tuned with ecutek.

Is it just the exhaust side camshaft clamped code? Or are you getting the 13070 I think it is with vanos uncontrollable on cold start

130716 is the code
That’s the clamped code. Hmmm are you having any odd idle issues?
the easier way to diagnose if it is the actuators is swap the exhaust and intake actuators on the backside of the motor it’s a quick process and if the code moves to the intake cam then it’s the actuator but more than likely it’s the central vanos bolt. I found this video helpful for the actuators.

It seems more people are having this issue then myself which is very interesting

For reference here is the replacement of the central bolt so you at least have an idea of what you’re looking at.
