Hey guys, I got a question about the front vent air ducts. Sadly, I live in Minnesota where our state wants us to have our License plates on the front bumper of the car. I'm not going to be using the Oem License plate frame because I didn't want Toyota to Drill holes on my CF. Instead, I am going to be using the tow hook license plate bracket, but the only thing I'm concern is that I don't want to block off any air on the left side of the vents. I have been looking at pictures on google and it seem like on the left side vent the air goes to the left side intercooler or Radiator and also an "Air Duct" to my left front brakes? I'm not too sure about it of where the air also goes and flows inside, but I was wondering if you guys can help me out? Will it be okay if the left vent was blocked off by the License plate?

Not My Supra, but I got these on Google images. Also, the second image what I was trying to say is for air flow to cool the brakes.?

Thanks,

I have not ran into any issues on my B48, which, from what I’ve read, has more heating issues than it’s big brother. When auto crossing/tracking/competitive driving, just remove the plate prior.

Also, not sure what other options there are. I sure as hell did not let them drill holes in my new car, and it’s not even a 3.0 let alone a CF edition.

If you shift the plate up as far as it will go in the tow hook mount, it doesn’t really block the vents, it just sits in front of the section that’s already blocked anyway. I’ll see if I can dig up a picture from my car.

You can see it in the 5th pic on this post:

The top half of the opening is blocked, only the bottom half is a real vent. You can shift the plate up high enough in the bracket (I'm using the Perrin one) that it only covers up the blocked top half and leaves the real vent open.

When i had my front plate on, there is still enough room on the bottom of the plate for airflow to still come thru... if anything, the bumper's curvature still forced air thru the back side of the plate to get sufficient air thru the passage... you'll be fine. Had no problems with IAT's/ cooling issues on a long drive to SF with constant people trying to find how what the Supra can do on straights lol. Just don't track with your LP on when it comes to track days.

Why not just wait until you actually get a ticket? Many people including me have gotten away with it for years. Most tickets are a fix it anyways so you got time to research it. If I'm forced to get one, I have this ready to order. It does look like it's far out enough to allow air into the ducts.

This would be my answer too. Illinois / Chicago requires a front plate. I haven't ran one on any of my fun cars for the past decade or more. I've maybe gotten 2-3 tickets total in that time. The $50 fine I paid each time is fine for me to not ugly up the front ends.

Hey that’s the same one I brought too lol. Yeah I feel you man. Here in Minnesota it all depends on the cop and sheriff of what “they” think. A few friends of mine they drive Japanese imports they got tagged for no front plates and it sucks bad. Truth is, I just hate getting harassed for no reason and I also don’t want to deal the bs too. It’s a waste of time to.

i saw the picture and yeah it doesn’t look bad to. Plus like how you mention the air can still flow through the real vent ?.

I was thinking of your style to how it sits flush inside the vent. I am going to do like how you did. Plus I won’t be tracking my CF yet since the car is still 130 miles only… Thank you again I appreciate for the answer friend. ?

~ Indeed the cleanest location if you must run a front plate. Throw a black tinted cover on it for even more discrete blending. I know some state have no mercy for those who go without when required.
