A not-crazy-loud catback exhaust that keeps the OEM valve?

I disliked magnaflow when I had an 86. For the Supra? It was my favorite. Ive had two exhausts so far. 1 did not use the actuator and sucked all around.

Magnaflow fit perfectly on first try, less to put together, better connectors and best of all they offer two pipe sizes for the downpipe connection and they offer a muffler or straight pipe for each tip, so you can quiet it down a little.

Cold start is stupid loud. I am catless and use magnaflow...it can't keep the actuator shut during cold start, no big deal.

Once idle, it idles nicely, not loud, not quiet.

Full throttle it can be loud, and I'm usually straight piped for pops and bangs and ak47s. Right now I have 1 muffler (non actuator side) and a straight pipe on the actuator side. You can conversate in the car no issue. No drone unless you're in a high gear at low speed. So not usually.

I love it. No complaints and it comes with multiple options instead of just one exhaust setup.

My intent is to keep the downpipe stock, I would expect it to be a good bit quieter. It's tough finding reviews or videos from people who have a stock downpipe though!

Thickening the plot a bit, I reached out to Borla with the compatibility question and they replied with this:

Unfortunately our current Cat-Back will not fit on the 2023 but we are hard at work developing an updated system for the newer Supra. We havenā€™t set a release date yet but Iā€™ve added you to the announcement list for this car so we can let you know as soon as the new Cat-Back is ready!
I asked for further clarification on whether this was for all 2023s, or just 2023 manual cars, and asking if they had any plans of doing different tip styles, and they came back with this:

Our currently system will not fit on any 2023 Supra, both the routing of the pipe and tuning of our mufflers will be updated for the best fit and sound.

We currently only plan to release another CF tip option as that has been the most popular choice for most customers.
So Borla at least is under the impression that their system will not fit on any 2023 Supra, regardless of manual or auto.

aFe reached out to me and confirmed fitment:

We found a manual trans car on Friday. We just finished the installation on it. 49-36043-L will fit the manual transmission with no problems. We will be updating our application information soon. I believe we will be posting it on social media this week as well.
I asked for clarification that all Takeda SKUs will fit the manual and they did confirm:

[...] confirmed that part numbers 49-36043-B, C, L, and P will fit.

I have an AFE on my A91-MT.they installed it for me at AFE with no problems at all. 6th gear cruising speed around 70-80mph no drone at all. I did notice some drone at around 2kish rpm but nothing too crazy. It really wakes up the car when the valves are opened.

Remark also keeps the valve. My auto has a remark with catless down pipe and it still sounds good no drone. I installed a AWE my MT, non res and res... To me they both sound nice but awe gets rid of the valve.

Did you keep their middle resonator or replace it with a straight pipe? And what downpipe do you have?

This was when I first put my Magnaflow on and still had my stock DP. Muffler on the non valved side and straight pipe on the valved side.

Sounds like Borla still needs to confirm fitment. But there is so much evidence now showing that old part numbers fit fine, regardless of transmission

I spoke to them today. It wonā€™t fit. Theyā€™re developing an exhaust for the MT thatā€™ll be available in 4-5 months

It came with the resonator and I have the AA catted downpipe.
So I'm thinking where you're at is similar to where I would be with the OEM downpipe. Do you feel like there's a much more substantial difference between normal and sport mode with the valve now, compared to the factory exhaust?

I had seen that video in my searches and it sounds great, and different. Much lower pitch from the Magnaflow exhaust than any other Supra exhaust out there. Do you feel like you got drone anywhere in the rev range before you swapped out the OEM downpipe? And how are the carbon tips holding up after a year and a half?

Hey OP, I had a 18 GT with catless LTH and ran a couple different setups, stock catback, stock catback with X pipe and stock catback with H pipe. Also with Magnaflow axle back and with Corsa catback. No exhausts for the Supra will give the range that the Mustangs active exhaust gave you. The closest may be the Remark or the HKS. (I know they may not sound different in the video but they do in person, but not the range the GT350 got)

Iā€™ve installed just about every exhaust thatā€™s been mentioned here except the Injen which Iā€™m doing this Friday. (I do install work for Speed Industry) or at least attempting to on a manual car. While underneath the only thing we think that may be in the way is the trans mount??? I took picture of the manual, doing a exhaust install on Wednesday on a auto to see if they are/look the same.

oh edit, the Magnaflow with muffler on the non-valved side and straight on the valved side gives a decent range, but not dead silence like the Mustang exhaust. (Again I know what you mean, in quiet mode you hear the faint engine noise under the road noise and wind noise like itā€™s barely there, great for long distanT road trips)

Yeah closed valve is pretty quiet but once you open it, it gets loud. I would say 7-8/10 loudness. Itā€™s nothing obnoxious thou. I would highly recommend it if youā€™re on the fence. Iā€™m very happy with it. You get more gurgles and pops in sport mode now.I was also concerned that it would be too quiet like the HKS but imo itā€™s sounds perfect.
