Another option to consider, is mechanical breakdown insurance. Cost is nominal and much cheaper than extended warranty, but only offered through Geico. Caveat is (1) no mods, (2) doesn't cover anything already under factory warranty, and (3) need to get coverage before hitting 15k miles.
I wish I could get this.

Is this like a rider to an existing Geico policy, or can you purchase this separately from Geico?

It's an add-on to an existing auto policy.

I did the 8 year/75k mile 0 deductible platinum warranty through Jerry at Midwest Toyota. 1,100 cost. Pretty nominal cost for peace of mind on the wifes car. Also helps that the dealership chain here has Toyota, Lexus and BMW all in the same auto campus.

I turned down the warranty, twice. Ended up getting an offer for 10 years at a really good price. I accepted it, but still iffy if I want to keep it or cancel.

Knowing BMW history, it's a little hard to decide. I sold my Lexus RC300 for the Supra because my HVAC started to only run hot air when on cold but it would go back to normal after turning the car off. Did some research, turned out the door blend actuator or something was failing and it was an expensive fix. It was a 2018, only had 15k miles. Based off that, I am leaning on keeping the warranty.

With cars depending so much more on electronic controls and electronics in general, I think it's a worth while thing to consider. In the end it's all up to the owner finding value and peace of mind with a warranty.

My warranty is a saving account set up specifically for when something shits the bed. May the odds be in my favor.

I had the 7 yr/75,000 on my 2.0 for $750. Sold the car last week and they refunded MOST of it back. I'll wait to get one on the Supra MT I just bought after 20K miles.

Hard pass here … typically a poor investment.

Especially if one finances it with their new car purchase (doubling up on a factory 3 year warranty).

I have no problem saying NO to high pressured sales in the finance office.

Eg., paint protection, fabric guard, leather protection, window etching, wheel and tire protection, glass protection, door ding protection, blah, blah, blah. Ah that’s a hell no.

Agreed, however I found that paint protection is ok but through an aftermarket third party with a film and ceramic coat. Would definitely save on the warranty to get it through PPF

My dealership didn't offer one. I've been searching for one since, can't seem to find anything to purchase after the fact.

**Edit: Read up on the terms. I bought a 10-year 100,000 mi warranty for another car I owned. I assumed it started when the factory warranty ran out. It did not. It's just a straight warranty which supersedes the one that came from the dealership originally. I E. You don't get your standard warranty plus the 10 years. You get 10 years total. Still a good thing to have, in my opinion.

Just wanted to share I kept refusing the warranty at the dealership and eventually they came over and asked what price it would take to get me onto the tire and wheel package and 6 year 75k platinum warranty. Ended up negotiating it down from $2600 to $1000 each. I wasn't originally planning on getting a warranty but clearly there is a lot of wiggle room to add to their pockets.
