Any registering/coding required with the PowerTex or is it just plug&play?
Not required, but recommended. You can code the new Ah rating and battery type with Bimmercode.

Also should register the new battery with Bimmerlink so the car recognizes you installed a new battery.

My batteries completely dead right now and I’m cross shopping between anti gravity and this alternative.

I think the positive for antigravity is if bought through fcp euro, it’s lifetime replacement. So you pay the hefty fee once.

Just wanted to update the thread that this battery has been flawless. My Supra isn't a daily driver so sometimes it sits for a week or two without being driven. I have purposely kept it off a battery tender to see how it will do. I have a bluetooth battery volt logger on the battery. It hasn't dropped from 100% at all.

@razorlab is the car more tail happy with the reduced 25lbs? :p
Reduced by 48.8lbs. :)

Didn't notice a huge difference but I have pretty high rate springs on my coilovers. I did notice it dances through transitions a little bit better now.

I’m definitely getting that PowerTex when they come back in stock. I’d rather have it as a backup when the OEM finally dies. We usually only get 3-4 years out of batteries down here.
Lithium-based batteries actually prefer heat. so PowerTex or OP's battery might do the trick.

https://www.osti.gov/pages/servlets/purl/1474853

Charging a battery while overheated or overcooled both accelerate aging. However, overheated charging is the lesser of two evils (note the inverted temp axis on top)

Additionally, the ideal temperature for minimal aging is on the higher end. Consider the following plot: going right of 25C is "okay" in terms of life. Going left quickly becomes a big no-no at anything but the slowest rates (at the bottom). Lithium batteries hate being cold, but can tolerate quite a bit of heat without complaining too much.

The last bit I want to comment on, and I'm sure you've all experienced this with your cell phones, is that once a lithium battery starts to age below ~80% health, it goes downhill in a hurry. This is known as "rollover". So if you start to see weird starting behavior, order a new one immediately.

This is the $549 link -- unfortunately out of stock
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Powertex...Automotive-Cars-Trucks-AGM-SLA-Dro/1494486998

This is the same battery listed by the manufacturer for $799 retail, $699 on sale and magically in stock.

I guess they realized there are people who are paying $1000 for battery, why should they sell this thing for $549?

Brake pads for $1000 is almost normalized. $1500 for tires that last 5 proper track days have been normalized for a while. So sure... $1000 for lithium iron battery lets go.

Disclaimer: I fully understand how hard it is to save 60+lb weight in car and how easy this solution is. Its just pricing is bananas.

Thx for the update. I want one of these batteries as well. As a backup once mine dies. If anyone else can locate one let us know. I’m sold on them But definitely don’t want to pay a grand.
