Hello,
I’m a first time poster looking to buy a 3.0 Supra. My current cars are a ‘83 5MT Porsche 944, and a 2015 Mustang GT. I’d be trading the mustang for one.

The market for these cars is interesting. Older ones are going for 50-60k and I could get a 2024 for 55k pre tax with no markup (in Washington State).
My dilemma is if I should put the 1k deposit down, or just wait until the cars arrive around January next year. The spec I want isn’t very unique. Just a white 8 speed.

Furthermore, will the older cars deflate in price? Again, my desired spec isn’t very rare, so it’d kinda suck to see a 2022 model for under 50k. Curious if anyone has insights from ordering a 2023 car. Thanks!

Just as an FYI, that might help your decision... You can't order a car from Toyota, you can only put a request in and when one comes up close or matching to your spec, the dealer can secure it. You cannot custom order straight from Toyota.

Right I misspoke. The dealer said since my desired “options” aren’t that unique they could get one pretty close to it. But yeah I could foresee cars arriving with several options I don’t need/a premium trim and getting beyond my price point.

If your names not on a list. You aren't guaranteed one, its not impossible, but harder. Many 2023 buyers had to switch over to 2024 due to lack of supply.

Either put down a deposit at your local dealer and wait it out, or start checking for dealers going out to a distance you're comfortable with traveling to who might already be expecting an allocation for what you want.

I bought my '23 about 2 months ago after searching within 1000 miles of me and found a dealer with an incoming allocation that was exactly what I wanted, 750 miles away for MSRP that wasn't yet spoken for. Put down my deposit in April, finalized purchase in July.

I suppose this is partially why I can’t see any/very few 2023 cars on the used market. I may go ahead and get on a list. Are the 2023 buyers you’re referring to people who weren’t on a list?

Thanks for the input. We’re your local dealers able to get your spec, but delivery would’ve just taken longer? The dealer I called told me that in ~1 month they’d start getting higher end trims (anniversary editions), then 3 months after more standard cars.

No they're on the list just missed 2023 production/ put their name in to late for 2023 so switched to 2024.

Be prepared to get low-balled if you trade in your Mustang. I have one of my cars for sale and due to the high interested rates (especially for vehicles older than 2019), buyers are not exactly banging down the door. The Kelley Blue book value is what dealerships would LOVE to pay, whether as a down payment or an outright purchase.

I'm in the same boat as you but will not have an opportunity to get a Supra at MSRP while losing thousands on a trade-in. So wait I will.

Any dealer that tells you they can get your exact spec is lying. Toyota works off allocations and they have no control over what they get sent. So they'll take your deposit for what you want and you could end up waiting a year before you get something close. It's better to cast a bigger net and search. And honestly, the 45th anniversary isn't any more special than any other Supra. It's just a special color option, an ugly spoiler and ugly graphics. Lol

You don't know my dealer. I've known my dealer for 30 years and always gets the exact spec I want, even to the sheet thread count for the custom in-trunk bed they always install for me free of charge.

So my suggestion, you will not get a limited edition without putting your name on a list or paying way over msrp. Put your name down at several dealerships. I did this in 2022 and got mine in may of 2023, but I was very picky with options and colors. It will most likely be a little easier for you since you are wanting an automatic transmission vs the manual. Also like someone else said, it would be easier if you sold your mustang yourself because that may complicate the deal a little more. Good luck my friend.

I’m on the waitlist with a deposit down at a dealer. If I don’t get an allocation for a 2023 it automatically becomes a 2024 model

I've been on a waitlist for a 2023 since February. My dealership just contacted me and says they've been allocated a 2024 45th Anniversary Edition with my name on it. I'm beyond excited!! It's been built and is in shipping.

I had a deposit in at a dealer I found that would sell me one for MSRP since April. I got a call in early July that the car was built, the car JUST arrived at the dealer Sunday. When the car was built in July, it was slated as a MY24, not MY23.

The blues from the pictures in the forum look gorgeous though. Can't wait to get it! I pick up this Tuesday, I wanted white, I'm getting blue. Not too upset about it, but it was a bit frustrating. They too said they could potentially change some things if they got the notification early enough, but it seems like the cars get built, then allocated to dealers.
