So I have been calling around asking for quotes for full coverage on my 2024 3.0 MT that's arriving soon. I have been getting quoted anywhere from $450-$800 a month for insurance in Springfield, IL.

I turned 22 5 days ago, and I have 1 ticket from nearly 3 years ago for going 13 over. I have 1 accident on my record a year ago from when I got rear ended. I was marked as 20-30% liability since it was considered a private parking lot. They originally told me this would not count in the future, so I accepted it. Well... they lied and it sure is raising my rates everywhere I have checked.

Are there any young drivers here that are experiencing these exorbitant rates as well? It seems like I am going to need to do plenty of overtime to make up for this.

I guess my dad was justified with all the yelling about my driving habits in high school. Sorry Dad.

Just what we needed here on top of 1,000 threads about oil. A thread about insurance.

You're 22 and you have an accident and a speeding ticket on your record.
I've been browsing this forum for months and I don't get the point of yelling about oil threads. They don't come up THAT much.

I really think a lot of this yelling at the clouds about oil threads sh*t could get solved with a simple chat built into the site so people can ask their stupid questions there instead of making a whole thread.

I am just fairly curious if its really this bad for other younger drivers. I have a cleaner record than my friends who pay way less for more expensive cars. It truly seems to be an age thing. I can still afford it, but it really does put a damper on things.

I mean insurance is tricky since there are so many rating factors companies use. Location can make a huge difference of course as well as age. I'm pretty sure younger drivers are going to be paying high premiums for this car in general even with no accidents/claims or tickets.

Might be able to get a % off if you were to take a defensive driving class?
Not sure how your state works in that aspect..
But yes being 22 is the killer..

Just get older OP.

Also, not many younger folks are stretching themselves thin over a car.

Yeah, I was wondering if there was something like that. I know for my Sport Bike I was able to take the MSF and get a huge discount off of insurance.

Thanks!

I'm not really being stretched thin, it just HURTS to be throwing this much at insurance. It's extremely shocking to me that I am going to be paying Supercar insurance prices for a Supra. No one I know is even close to these insurance costs.

Iā€™m sure if you could do it with your bike, itā€™s an option for the car..
But most times a course can only be taken every 18 months or something..

Iā€™d definitely contact your insurer and see if they offer a discount and if itā€™s worth it

unfortunately you still have at least 3 years before rates for you drop and thatā€™s only on a perfect driving record.. lol..

good luck
Steve

Insurance is based on probability of accident and the cost to pay for it - it is a for profit business, after all. Supra is very expensive to repair (how about damaged door replacement for $5000?) and most are junked after anything more serious. Being 22 and already having "at fault" accident is what counts.

Yeah, it's really a shame since I really wasn't at fault at all. I was pulling up to a stale yellow from the parking lot and I think they assumed I was going to just go through it.

Maybe we can just merge the oil threads with the insurance threads and go all in!!
