Possible to top mount the stock turbo?

So if that was how @_Sp1ral0ut was made, then what was @_Sp1ral0ut doing in the room as a sentient being with a wiffle ball bat? Are we talking some terminator sh*t here or what?

Yes it was ?? it was just a genuine question I’m coming from the American muscle world this is my first turbo/ non American car so I’m learning this whole boost thing.
Let me help you out. Modern turbo cars have an integarated manifold built with the turbo. So, trying to reuse a stock Itegrated turbo on anything else is a no go.

when you go aftermarket either bottom mount or top mount, you need a manifold that then has a flange that the turbo attaches to. The manifold is what makes it bottom or top mount because of “where the turbo mounts” to the manifold. You will then need to have custom oil feed and oil return lines. If it is also water cooled, you’ll need custom water feed and return lines as well. Then you will need a turbo to intake line so the air being compressed goes into the inter cooler or intake if water to air cooled like the Supra is. Add to that a custom Downpipe to connect to the exhaust. The last piece is how do you control the boost… either with an internal waste gate (this is what our turbos have) that opens a flange to keep the turbo from spinning to the moon and back to make it simple. An external waste gate means a different setup coming off the exhaust side of the turbine.

Quite honestly I would google how a turbo works, lots of information out there to help teach you. Your question shows me you truly don’t understand turbos and turbo cars.not being rude, just trying to save you from either blowing up a $20,000+ engine or being ripped off with all this bullshit stage crap America has implemented to make money off suckers.

Once you start adding larger turbines, more air more fuel you’ll need to beef up the internal parts of the engine, potentially thicker/stronger head gasket with ARP head studs. Probably need a twin plate clutch if 6 speed, or a beefed up transmission if automatic along with several other complementing parts.

My suggestion: enjoy the car, read up a ton on what I takes to make the horsepower you’re thinking you want, and devise a plan with a reputable shop. Good luck.

P.S.: American muscle cars and adding a turbine to gain more output/horsepower are no different then what I described above.

I don't see one single reason that you couldn't just cut the manifold off the oem turbo and weld an extension and vband to top mount it.

Then, make a custom downpipe, chargepipe, and lines as well. Maybe extend the harness for the wastegate actuator also.

Then when you're ready, all you have to do is throw all this custom work in the garbage and start over with a real turbo and remake everything.

Sure, it would cost way more than just using a real turbo in the first place, but sure why not? :)

yeah the exhaust manifold and turbo hot side are one piece. This is why the stock turbo cannot be top mounted.

Not possible, however, you could front mount your exhaust and passenger mount your intake.
