Does the new Supra meet Toyota's reliability standards despite having BMW components?
Sure, thats an easy problem to solve, just lower your standards! lol

Only time will tell. I had a mk2 Supra for awhile with the original unrebuilt 5mge and original HG too amazingly. Had 640,000kms on it when I sold it, still ran great. I wouldn't expect the kind of epic durability and never die powertrain that made this company famous here in the first place, but it might do ok while under warranty (if that's your definition of reliable).

Keep em coming my friends! I'll try to curate the list and ask the hard hitters for sure. Trying very hard to get some time with Tada-San, but he's a tough guy to get in one place. Maybe I'll grill Morizo if I see him :p

It's not cost efficient to ship parts from Japan to Austria.
While of course it makes sense to not need to ship parts from Japan to the manufacturing facility if it can be avoided, Toyotas are manufactured globally and parts are shipped from Japan to them all the time. Of course if they don't need to they won't and when BMW already has suppliers and manufacturing facilities nearby it makes sense to utilize them (though of course Toyota does as well).

My point is, Toyota routinely ships large and small components from Japan to factories in North America and Europe for final assembly. Logistically they already have it figured out if they had a need or desire to do so. It may be a bit more expensive, so I'm sure the bean counters don't love it, but they do it.

Haha, I'm not expecting to see this car hit nearly 640,000 kms whatsoever. I'm pretty confident it'll be great under warranty, but I want to know how it will fare once the warranty period *ends*. My definition of reliable is whether or not it can hold up till 225,000 miles/362,000 kms, but even that may seem like a super high expectation for this car

A. What defines the term "supra worthy"?
B. If a 3JZ was to be made, would the B58 be it? How and why so? How close or far is the B58 to a 3JZ ideally speaking, if Toyota was to produce a 3JZ? Is the new engine worthy enough to be successor of 2JZ? (Reputation, heritage and potential), and why?
C. To name this vehicle in particular as "Supra", is a very bold and risky move, seeing as how controversial the vehicle is, is this something you saw coming? If so, what made you still proceed with the name of the car anyway?
D. Do you understand why the community loves the Mk. IV very much? Do you see the Mk. V will be able to do the same, and when?
E. Why the Mk. V?
F. What's next for the Supra? (The name, the story, the development, it's place in the coming years).
G. Is this the Mk. V you were wishing for?
H. How long will it take to develop variations of the Mk V? When are the ideal time to let the world know? What abt Mk. VI? Will it take 10+ yrs to pop out, just like Mk. V did?

Ugh, please people, stop referring to this motor as a 3jz or making that comparison. There is 0 DNA between these 2 motors, 0 Toyota parts on it (and I am skeptical that there were even any significant changes made to it on their request). And even if Toyota had built it, it still wouldn't have been called a 3JZ. JZ is the engine family to signify the existing engine family the motor is a revision of. There is no way if Toyota had made a new inline 6 themselves that they would have continued building on the JZ platform as it has been out of production for about 13 years. Ex, the first gen Tacoma has a 3rz motor in it, 2.7l inline 4, made 96-04. The 05+ Tacomas also have a 2.7l inline 4 in them, but its a called a 2TR. There's an engineering change there, different heads, addition of VVTi, significantly different block etc, so brand new name even though to the average customer its essentially the same motor on paper.

Is the failure to sell ‘the 900’ down to the product missing the mark or poor marketing?
Will it affect plans for future projects?

No, I think the inability of 900 to sell speaks more of the attitudes of the people. It is them saying they did not have enough faith in Toyota to make a worthy successor to the Supra. We will see tomorrow morning whether they were right or wrong.
