How did you install radar and dashcam?

If anyone has a radar and dashcam installed, I'm curious how you installed them. The radar and dashcam I have both use the cigarette lighter but the Supra only has one to offer. I've considered getting an adapter to add another, but I think it would look tacky/cheap. I'm assuming a lot of people hardwired their cams so they free up the cigarette lighter for a radar. The other concern is that if mounting them both on the windshield will make visibility significantly worse.

And if you had to decide on one or the other, which did you choose?

I appreciate any and all input.

I'd suggest hardwiring them. The fuse panel is on the right side passenger compartment footwell. Use an adapter wire / plug like such.

I ran two add-a-circuits and mounted both units at the top of the windshield.

You'll need to ditch the cigarette lighter adapter and go hardwired. How you do this can be any number of ways and will depend on the plug the device needs and the voltage it's expecting.

This thread has some ideas:

https://www.supramkv.com/threads/radar-detector-direct-wire.12504/

Here's a thread I made on the S550 forum, I used more or less the same method in the Supra after identifying the wires to tap into:

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/clean-cheap-hard-wire-for-radar-detector-or-dash-cam.63984/

ETA: I used one of these in the Supra to get the radar detector tucked up nice and high just under the headliner. There are different styles even among the same brand of radar detector, so you'll have to figure out the right one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/113178392878

No dashcam but I did install my Uniden R7 as tucked away as I could. I made my own mirror tap from a phone cable that was getting thrown away at work. Added extra connectors in case I ever get around to mounting a remote Mute button and LED like the hardware that Uniden sells. I replaced the two suction cups which tend to fail anyways with 3M plastic velcro tape (similar to this one https://a.co/d/7cdqqZ0 ) and got everything as close to the headliner as I could. This way I can move it from one vehicle to the next whenever I want to. These cars already have terrible visibility and getting a mount that hangs the radar under the rearview mirror or even using the larger suction cup mount that comes with the radar was just gonna make things worst IMHO. I can still use the visor within it's usable/effective range, just not fully open it which for me was perfectly fine.

I used the detailed install linked above to wire in the dashcam. Originally the BlackVue but swapped out to a Viofo 4K unit because the BlackVue sucked. Still running the BlackVue battery pack though. I mounted my radar detector to the dash so it’s not blocking my view from the driver seat.

Glad noone is crying over not having a PnP harness like those folks over in the horn install thread..

I too just tapped the fuse box under the passenger footwell and ran a wire up the A-pillar and mounted my MAX360C using blend mount. Very cool.

there actually is a plug and play tap in option with the Blendmount and pulling power from the mirror. That’s how I did it in my M4cs and my Supra with the Redline 360c.

When I had my C63s, I had to tap from the fuse box and she pulled power right from the mirror on her M4. I was jelly. So when we got the Supra, I said ā€œhey you know exactly how this install goes since you did your M4, so you’re doing it on my carā€

took her 15 minutes
