No clue, never heard of it before. It must be an across the pond option.

It used to be popular in the BMW tuning scene, it was one of the first options that had Custom Code. Development had slowed down a lot, so it fell behind BM3 and MHD in terms of coding options.

Custom Code 7.1 recently came out, so you get all the cool features on the Supra. I’m actually using MG Flasher. It works fairly good for what it is, but MHD is still ahead IMO. I think there are some unique things MGF does that the other options don’t, like not using torque bend, leaving supposedly leaving CVN untouched, ignition cut antilag. But again, honestly not enough to put it above the big three.

However I think I’d say MG Flasher is the most open for individual use out of all the options (like self tuning); but that also means it makes it a lot easier to mess things up if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Reflex support and Ethanol/Flex fuel are supposed to be coming out soon. I think by then, MG Flasher would definitely be a contender with the big three.

Has anyone verified that the CVN did not change?

Who's a good tuner or who tuned yours? Thanks!

Currently running OTS Stage 2, will go custom tune once I go big turbo/Reflex support comes out. If I had to choose, I'd probably say either Justin@Twisted or MGF themselves. BMW guys seem like they preferred Navardi, Marin, and Motiv; but it's been a while since the community's been active with using MG Flasher.

One major benefit is that their official support is very active and quick, a couple of minor issues I encountered were quickly resolved (user error). At the end of the day though I'd still recommend someone to go MHD or BM3. Personally I just wanted to support another tuning option besides the big 3, and for my purposes, it works fine. Again, maybe when Flex Fuel/Reflex comes out, but right now, not yet. Especially for >06/2020 guys who have to send their DME out to get Custom Code loaded.

Yeah my CVN didn't change AFAIK, but IIRC flashing back to stock ROM directly will increase the write count by 1. I unlocked my DME with the M-Link full backup, so I'll write it back one of these days and document it properly.

One of my gripes is that it's partially misleading. They advertise some DME unlock that completely locks CVN and write count, but it requires the the Unlocking facility to physically purchase some specific license. Where I live, there are only two official MG Flasher dealers, both of which refused to acknowledge the MG Flasher unlock. When I emailed MG Flasher regarding the issue, they just said I could potentially coordinate with a tuning/unlocking facility abroad.

With the difficulty, the advertisement was slightly misleading. So CVN does remain untouched, but your write count goes up if you don't use something like M-Link or the Flex/MG Flasher unlock.

Like the title says, why isn’t MG Flasher as popular as MHD or BM3? I’ll admit I don’t know anything about tuning. Is it a new platform? Less features?

they fell behind due to issues after updates and generally lacking in some features thats others offer. its not bad. but there are definitely better platforms to use.

Is calibration ID the same as write count?
