TRD displayed this JZA80 named "TRD 80 Supra" at the recent 2019 TOKYO AUTO SALON.
This model is a remake of the SUPER GT GT 500 class development vehicle, to celebrate the 25 years from that time.
TRD also indicates that it is not only a glimpse at the past, but an idea of the things to come in the near future...
This is something similar to what i expect from the TRD A90...

I think it's safe to say that there will be aftermarket parts besides the exhaust and intake. Guys, the motor is a BMW B58. There are a few companies (i.e. Burger Tuning, Cobb, Vishnu, etc) that have created piggy back systems. I'm sure after a few months, one of these companies will release their version for this motor. I have a JB4 on my BMW 335i, and with an intercooler, intakes, charge pipe and 93 octane, the whp was over 400+. The piggy back system easily boosts 50+ whp. I won't be surprised if many of the aftermarket mods will be similar to the BMW ones--such as the water injection "meth" kit that can easily get you another 100 whp, or upgrade to the turbos.

+1 With BMW being the winner in this situation. Given the B58 has been out for a while, a few companies with BPU specs is normal. Since this is the MKV, the bigger players like HKS, GReddy, Real Street, AMS, SP will start builds and find ways to extract as much out of the engine, transmission and driveshaft. This will be a true test to see if the B58 is really the "next 2JZ". I see a lot of plastic so this should be fun...

I think you've overgeneralized this point lol. I was one of those "kids." I think years ago, you could do way more than you can now. I.e. you could mix & match the motors of all B series. You could have a B18C as your cylinder head and match it up with a B20 bottom end for low torque--the "frankenstein" motors. You just can't simply do that with BMW.

What attracts me to BMW motors is that the cost to get big numbers isn't a much as the JDM ones. I remembered when I would spend $5k on N/A parts for my Integra, only to get about 25-50whp. With that same amount of money spent on a BMW (turbo), you can get 4-5 times the whp. But I agree with you, we will see some folks hitting high numbers on those dynos.

The BMW's aftermarket group is not as widespread as the MKIV aftermarket group but that could change. BMW just figured it out with their closed deck block and back when Toyota did it 20 yrs ago. I'm talking about shops offering a complete engine packages that can handle 4,000hp. Another thing that will be a major factor will be the cost of OEM BMW/Toyota MKV parts.

Titan Motorsports has a long history of building and racing very powerful 2JZ engines. For several years the company and their partner Expert Racing Parts in Brazil were developing a 2JZ billet block which they started selling in November 2017. The block features custom extra thick Darton sleeves, seven forged steel main caps, and a maximum displacement of 3.5 liters. The block costs $12,500 and can handle 4,000+ horsepower.


"Made in China" has become a blessing and a curse. In a booming Japanese 90's economy, they put a lot of quality into JDM parts that we probably won't see in a very long time. In the last decade, China has increased their ability to replicate things just like how Japan was able to do in the 70's and 80's. China and Taiwan has the resources to take those JDM parts and copy them. It's has spilled over to German cars too. I've seen some Porsche and BMW owners with the audacity to put Depo LED lights on their cars.

but that isn't a JDM vs Bavaria specific issue, that is a typical NA vs FI cost concern for most any engine architecture... Supra fans have experienced that with the JZ, ain't nothin new from BMW..
