Im confused... The ordinary version gets fake vents which Toyota says are intentionally located, so that with a lot of panel beating work, you could use them for RACING purposes.

Then comes along Toyota RACING DEVELOPMENT,.. who hypocritically proceed to block it up???

Other than a small amount of rice-a-roni carbon tid bits... What the hell is different about this TRD version?
Yeh it's weird...I wonder (for the side vent) if by "functional" he simply meant a mounting point for this aero piece?! :dunno:

The sad thing about official performance arms today is that regulations, limitations, etc do not allow them to offer extreme tuning packages for street legal applications. This is why they are limited to cosmetic parts, composite materials, wheels, etc... Most of them are even only for marketing purposes and offer zero performance gains.
Don't expect turbo kits from the official tuners...

Mimicking their European competitors, they follow the trend to badge the cars as factory machines (GR Supra / nismo GT-R like M4 / AMG GT), instead of just offering aftermarket tuning parts.

Especially the new A90 Supra as a joint development with BMW , WILL NOT deviate much from its sibling...
M Performance on one side, TRD Performance on the other...

For us, the romantic generation of the golden 90's JDM era, we hope that legendary houses like C-West, VARIS, Veilside, will give it some Japanese aura, and with some serious tuning parts from tuners like Top Secret, HKS, JUN, Greddy, BLITZ, it will give the world some magic to the much awaited Supra...

They can but it's generally special order and you have to have the Japanese part numbers. It's just like how certain Toyota dealers can order Japanese A70/A80 parts, but it's true that most cannot and/or will not.

In any case, I'm not a big fan of what TRD did with this car. I think most of my issue is with the wheels, but the aero is just sort of meh IMO. That said, the standard car already has aero factory so I guess this is what happens as a result.

I'm sure TRD / GR will do more moving forward. I would expect suspension and exhaust components at least. Probably more.

Intake, exhaust, BBK, sway bars, and coilovers are all being developed, which is why it's a bit odd to not see prototypes of that stuff on this car.

But there is a division between TRD and GR, which may impact how that stuff is marketed/displayed.

Meh is what I also feel. Very basic and if this is the best Toyota can do, that’s pretty sad.

I wonder if TRD is going to release a wide body kit.

Those wheels like the Sport Design wheels for the 997.

Now lets see some aftermarket functional front bumper, hood and diffuser from TRD or anyone else. TRD offered an amazing looking widebody kit for the Mk4. Here is hoping they do the same here. Glad they got rid of the non functioning side vent.

I'm sure they don't cost much
It might. TRD was pretty pricey back in the Mk4 days. Their widebody kit for the Mk4 was sex on wheels and wasn't cheap. Plus this is similar to a BMW M Performance lineup of front lips, side skits, rear spoilers and rear spats. Glad they got rid of the fake door vents. Here is hoping they come out with a full body kit...wide or not (and no overfenders don't count).
