Yeh it's weird...I wonder (for the side vent) if by "functional" he simply meant a mounting point for this aero piece?!Im confused... The ordinary version gets fake vents which Toyota says are intentionally located, so that with a lot of panel beating work, you could use them for RACING purposes.
Then comes along Toyota RACING DEVELOPMENT,.. who hypocritically proceed to block it up???
Other than a small amount of rice-a-roni carbon tid bits... What the hell is different about this TRD version?
Meh is what I also feel. Very basic and if this is the best Toyota can do, that’s pretty sad. They can but it's generally special order and you have to have the Japanese part numbers. It's just like how certain Toyota dealers can order Japanese A70/A80 parts, but it's true that most cannot and/or will not.
In any case, I'm not a big fan of what TRD did with this car. I think most of my issue is with the wheels, but the aero is just sort of meh IMO. That said, the standard car already has aero factory so I guess this is what happens as a result.
I wonder if TRD is going to release a wide body kit.I'm sure TRD / GR will do more moving forward. I would expect suspension and exhaust components at least. Probably more.

It might. TRD was pretty pricey back in the Mk4 days. Their widebody kit for the Mk4 was sex on wheels and wasn't cheap. Plus this is similar to a BMW M Performance lineup of front lips, side skits, rear spoilers and rear spats. Glad they got rid of the fake door vents. Here is hoping they come out with a full body kit...wide or not (and no overfenders don't count).I'm sure they don't cost much
