A little bit about my background: I am going to tuned my car with BM3 + E50 + AA catted dp, so somewhere around 480hp. And obviously the stock MPSS at the rear axel is not enough to hold the power. And I live in California which means I don't care about wet performance at all and do go to around 3 to 5 track day a year.

1. I see a lot of people when upgrading their tires they also increase the width of it. So I am wondering has anyone tried switch to the exact same tires but wider? For example, from 255 front PS4S to 275 PS4S. Basically I try to figure out should I stay with the stock sizing or not. And I also care about performance on the track.

2. What tires are you guys recommend? I see people praise PS4S, V601, AD09, RT660 but love to know more these.

3. Since I only have this car about 10months my front still have 8' and rear has 5'. Is it going to be a bad idea that I only switch the rear to a gripper tires? I think it might be fine on the street but will make the car much more understeer on track or even spirit drives?

I’d recommend 305/35/19 cup 2. It matches with the front and can handle 500whp

This will not fit on a stock wheel. He will need to get wider wheel, but he can get 285 cup 2’s and that is most likely the best tire with the stock wheel. Good luck.

So this is just personal opinion for myself. When I had my Mach 1 that car came with Cup 2 tires, had to replace them before 5000 cause the cords were poking on the inside front tires and I went with PS4S.

I did plenty of hard take offs with both tires when I still had the car. I never did end up taking the car to the track or auto crossing the car, however, as far as launches when the tires seemed to be warmed up I did not notice a difference in grip between either of them.

I'd also recommend the Bridgestone RE71's if you're looking for grippier tires as they're a hell of a lot cheaper than cup 2s especially if you're mostly going to be street driving. I'm sure there is something better for more street driving but these are just the ones I've got experience or knowledge with. I wouldn't go more than 295 on the stock tire either for the rear

Thank you for all the great response, but I really want to know more about has anyone tried the same tires compound but play around with width

For example, how is 285 cup2 on stock wheel vs 275 cup2 on the stock wheel.

From my understanding that wider tires will give you more grip. Also you can run 295/35 PS4S. It’s a better option if you daily your car

If your on stock rim go 285. I run nitto 555r2 and get about 5k miles out of them but it’s not my daily and I go to the track frequently. I’m over 500.

Since you're looking for something that can do track days also probably one of the 200 treadwear tire options you mentioned should work. They will definitely have more grip than the PSS when warmed up. You could go up a size or 10mm on the width for the oem wheels without worrying about rubbing or other issues.

I have similar setup (flex e50 on Ecutek) and running 285/35/19 Nitto 555rii on the rear which put the power down nicely. They are more designed for street or drag though.

Not a Corvette.
i have 52X/500 with a progressive boost curve so not a huge boost hit down low, by design.

On the street with RE71RS in 295 1st and 2nd is basically useless. 3rd works fine unless the tires are cold. On track with hot tires it hooks up well unless I am an ape with the throttle.

Nankang CRS on the street kinda suck because they don't get much temp in them. I can spin in 3rd with those.

It's a more nuanced situation than most people realize.

Wider tires increase lateral grip because the contact patch gets wider laterally, but the contact patch will become shorter longitudinally which will decrease longitudinal grip.

To counteract this, people run lower tire pressures so that the contact patch gets larger overall, and to counteract tire deformation from running lower pressures, the ideal is to run a wider wheel so that the tire is stretched very slightly, stiffening the sidewall.

TL;DR: It's not as simple as just slapping on a wider tire. Sometimes performance gets worse if you don't take these things into consideration. Biggest example I've seen of it being done wrong is when people keep the stock wheel width and then slap on a super fat tire to the point that it's actually pinching the tread.

I ran 285's on the stock rears. Nitto R2's and they were fantastic. if you aren't racing and it's mostly a daily with expected spirited driving, R2's are more than you'll need. Yes they have a much shorter lifespan. Mine are about almost done and theyre on 13k miles. I do not drag, track, etc. Just daily city and highway (mostly highway) driving. At this point, R2's are scary on rain so it's about time i change them out. Dry road, theyre still good though at this wear.
