My question is if it passes emissions
I have no doubt that with a clean slate design like this Toyota can make a new I-6 that will pass emissions. It might need to be hybrid in order to do so and employ not just their D4S direct and port injection but some combustion efficiency modes learned from the Prius drivetrain evolution... and there is also the recently proposed 6-cycle combustion process Porsche has developed and Mazda's recent highly efficient HCCI combustion technology.

There are several ways for them to do it at current time. It is when we get further into the mid-2030's that the current generation of GR engine design will probably have to be discontinued due to ever tighter emissions.

By then we'll be much further along with refining next gen battery tech in all sorts of ways that will counterract the current downsides.

But as of right now? If Toyota were to actually make an I-6 from two 3cyls they can make it pass emissions yes I have no doubt.

Because I remember Tetsuya Tada talking about how small the window was for a new ICE

I love how this thread started in 2019 when mk5 just barely came out and people were already anxious about the next gen, and its been IA bs conspiracies ever since

Exactly. And he was absolutely right. My thinking for some time now has been that Akio Toyoda et al have been well aware of this and laid a lot of groundwork to make some special models of all kinds (not just the GR products) before that window/door begins to close.

Given how long it takes to develop new engines and platforms while still adhering to various ever changing regulations I have no doubt this whole strategy started much earlier than we think.

Toyota now already has two in-house compact and easy to package performance engines. The four cylinder design was already done by the time they announced it.

And they have the TT V8 originally made for the stillborn LC-F that is now testing in the LFR.

If Toyota Motor wants to do one last inline-six now is the time to do it.

And going from what PerformanceSound just said and has also been hinting at for some time (albeit without the I-3 x2 = I-6 context) it would make sense if Toyota has already been working on such an engine in secret just to be able to mass produce it, mass produce vehicle chassis designed for it and have enough years of that sales window to market such an engine before everything changes.

Further, the MKVI probably will have some variants of that 2.0L four cylinder including a hybrid. If Toyota does what we all thought was unlikely then maybe four cylinders won’t be the only engine types in the lineup.

Here’s hoping.

There is a reason the G16E-GTS came to fruition….it was by division, not subtraction. That’s all I will say. Okay, back to my cave.
Oh…. okay. I see I missed that. Had it backwards for a bit, lol.

That is very impressive if so.

Ok with all this speculation. It's time to sell the mkv. But on a serious note I'm beyond excited to see what Toyota/Gr brings in the upcoming years. I know this is supra forum but I'm beyond excited to hear more about the rumor mr2. I hope it's true using the 2.0t awd and 6spd will be god tier in my opinion.

So I'm guessing no fake vents this time around.
I hope not, but I don't know that yet. I'm trying to get info on whether Yamaha is onboard or not. This alone will tell me if the new motor will be amazing or mediocre.

Let YAMAHA Make Supra's Great Again!....lol.

Yup but we have to keep in mind that it does take around 5 yrs or more to develop these kind of cars. With that said hopefully we'll start seeing test mules pretty soon.

I had seen the 2.0t/400hp rumor for the MR-2. 6 speed and rear wheel drive please. Would consider trading in the A90. Would be hard to give up the beautiful inline 6 soundtrack though.

I am interested in the new MR2 (keeping my Supra though) if it has a 6MT. Want it to be RWD for more fun, less weght and less maintenance cost.
