^^^ This.

Most partnerships keep the costs down. Without BMW or Subaru, Toyota's future sports cars will be far from cheap. Especially with the average price of a new car in 2024 being close to $50k already.

Let's not forget that the A80 Turbo was $48k new in 1994 and $54k new in 1998. That's $100k in today's dollars.

I suppose the Celica could end up being the American GR Yaris (translation: 2 door GRC), with the MR2 being a backwards Celica, like in the 00s -- I'm not sure how close these chassis were underneath, but the W30 shared a ton of components with the Celica and Corolla, so much so that a 2ZZ from either is a 99% direct bolt in for the W30.

Toyota owns a stake in Subaru and they have other joint ventures, so I'm guessing the 86 stays a collab. I'd be happy with this, as I think the 86 is perfect at what it does.

Hopefully the Supra isn't revived as a Toyota RC-F. It makes sense from a sales perspective to Mustangify the Supra, but the RC-F sucks. I just can't see a situation where the Supra remains a small two-seater while Toyota also sells an MR2.

How do you guys believe all of this? Toyota is probably one of the most boring, frugal companies out there who is pushing hybrid and hydrogen technology moreso than probably any other large automaker and you think they are about to unveil a huge sports car lineup like this? This is just a rumor mill being fed by Japanese outlets like Best Car who are not at all reliable sources of information.

I don't get it and I wouldn't buy any of this hype. They aren't going to all of the sudden spend all this money developing low production, low selling, high performance vehicles when most countries are pushing strict emissions regulations and especially not as the economy is about to possibly go into a recession. Have you seen the used car market lately? It's in shambles. New cars aren't doing much better.

Bestcar is a great source, they annonced tons of details for the GR Corolla, new prius and new camry that were 100% on point, including renders that were so close, it makes you wonder if they saw the car and performance figures (300hp, GR-Four for the GR Corolla)...

this is from may 2021, 1 year beafore announcement...

That and the initial post's teaser released by Toyota themselves hinting at all these cars (teasers very similar to all the teasers they did for the GR Corolla as well...)

I've been silently excited about the MR2, whether real or not. Both scenarios are awesome to me.

If Fake: I actually enjoy reading the rumors, the people's takes on rumors, and speculation. I like the Internet Kayfabe. And best of all I don't have to spend a single penny.

If Real: Having seen and experienced the GR86/BRZ and GR Supra cycle, this time I am 100% ready to be a part of it from the start when the MR2 Mk4 drops.

Yes that's right.

I'm gonna drool over my top 2 favorite 'must have' paint schemes and trim. I'm gonna leverage existing relationships with dealerships to drop my name in the hat. I'm gonna call a bunch more new ones and get treated like royalty in the first 2 minutes, until the sales guy realizes I don't wanna pay for the $10k markup and LoJack that they didn't disclose upfront, and their attitude flips to making me feel as basic as their sales tactics. This is the real Kayfabe right here folks. I'm prepared to wait years to get the config I want without markups.

While flicking through nationwide inventory, I'll be flicking through all the MR2 forums to read up on other people's journeys with this car. I'm looking forward to seeing how the MR2 Mk4 communities develop over time. And comparing the qualities and attributes to other communities. I'm excited to see all the different ways that owners mod their cars.

The last time I've been this excited about a rumor was when I heard the CRX was getting a spiritual successor. So who knows, maybe it'll all just be a snow globe dream and when I wake up, what I thought was real might actually be something I wished was fake.

Yeah, because the last MR2 was a gangbuster lol. The previous generation MR2 did so bad you can still buy one used for like $10K with low miles. I know because I have owned one. Fun little cars but yeah, Toyota isn't bringing back the MR2. The niche is SO small for a car like that which makes it absolutely economically unviable to produce for them. Not to mention with a car like that the engine is so stuffed that many of your typical maintenance issues would require the engine to be pulled every time which increases the cost ten fold and that will make them even more undesirable.

It's a cute dream to have but you need to think this from the lense of Toyota. It makes absolutely no sense for them to add this car to the lineup. And if they did, it would be above $100K in price and when has there ever been a Toyota that was at that price point? That's a Lexus price point. So, maybe a Lexus in the US market. And would they really call it a Lexus MR2? Come on. Bestcar is just trying to sell magazines and doodles.

The Supra is an FR coupe and the MR2 is mid engine, rear wheel drive (hopefully) or AWD (as some suggested). Their will attract enthusiasts looking for different driving experiences.

i love my GR Supra 6MT but also missing the MR turbo driving experience from the SW20

I'm more shocked at the fact that his video has been out for a month and this is the first time that someone took noticed of this Easter egg.
The people at Toyota are probably like finally someone noticed lol. Anyways, I wonder if I'll be getting a prize for uncovering this haha.

He didn't even give @Supra93 or the forum a shout out
It would have been nice to have a little more traffic but its ok. We're already the largest and most active online platform for the MKV.

Also, awesome eye @Supra93. I love this community.
Funny thing, I need new glasses. One of my lens is cracked lol.
