Hi all,

What is everyone using for a service to have their ECU unlocked in 2024? I know there are a few different options when you Google, and most threads I could find here are a bit older.

A90 shop looks like they offer the service, but you must purchase a BM3 license. Does anyone do the unlock without doing a tune or license? I want to have the ECU unlocked, but I'm not sure I want to tune the car just yet. Barely have 400 miles on the car and want to enjoy it a little the way it is, but where it's wintertime and I can't drive the car right now, it makes sense to send it out sooner than later.

Thanks in advance all!

I believe you have to choose a software before it gets sent to Femto, as they have to be the ones the flash it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Almost 2025 and there is still no viable stateside unlock. Unbelievable...

Anyways, just send it to Femto yourself after purchasing the license. The license can be bought directly on protuningfreaks or MHD's website. Some of these shops will let you buy the standalone license too if you don't want to deal with the middleman. You'll save a few hundred bucks with the DIY method and they will give you detailed instructions on how to do it. However, the shops will usually give a bundled deal where will get both the unlock and license at a better price than paying for them separately.

Just need to shop around...

I'm baffled by this too. With mine being my daily, I just can't see myself sending my ECU to Finland or wherever they are. I'm sure if someone stateside started doing it, they'd instantly have a bunch of orders (people like me who don't like the idea of mailing my ECU overseas).

For now, I'll just keep working with my JB4.

I live in NH so my car is off the road for the next few months, I may end up pulling and sending it directly but haven't decided yet.

But yeah, would be nice if there was a stateside tuner who could handle these. Probably a farfetched idea with the model being discontinued soon.

Yeah, I can see the FEMTO option being a bit more viable if you're in a state with seasons. I live in Florida though. I'm in the Supra year-round?

totally believable. Only God knows who femto paid off at Bosch to get the info they needed /partialjoke. It's only going to get worse with time. The community of people who are capable of doing it (reverse engineering DMEs, ECUs and security protocols baked into them) is already small enough as is. Secrets are kept very close hold. It's a multi-million dollar business with questionable legality behind it. There's a reason they operate where they do and there's a reason its complicated.

Personally, I'm just surprised Bosch doesn't just have a universal unlocked service they sell themselves and report directly to the manufacturers to void their warranty...

edit: I wouldn't expect someone to start doing it stateside for quite some time. Like I said, multi-million dollar business here.

There is a stateside performance shop that has a solution coming. They cracked it before those other guys did. They are working on a protection/security piece to the software to prevent everyone from stealing the code. It's Mission Performance and the guy doing the security piece is a dude named Thomas Anderson. It'll be ready in....

... two weeks. I swear on my uncle's girlfriend's brother's roommate.
