I have a 2021 Supra 3.0 that is tuned, lowered with BC Racing wheels with intake, exhaust and some interior/exterior upgrades that I'm thinking of selling/trading in for a 6 speed Lotus Emira. I know that the Supra is faster but the Lotus has a more exotic look and is more rare. Interested in getting some feedback on the upgrade/downgrade?

Emira interior is really nice. Will get more looks at car show.

slower. Lotus reliability. you should go on their forum and do some reading. I know a car show car enthusiast who has made this exact switch.

Sounds like the typical I’m bored with my current car post. It doesn’t matter that you have a nice Supra, comparing the two is irrelevant. Sell the Supra and find something that better fits your driving needs.

know someone who had a 2020 and had plans to build a track car. sold it for an Emira and now has plans to build as a show car. others have great suggestions. i've heard of issues w/lotus although it is exotic looking. i'd say test drive it if you can and research forums to make the best informed decision.

I think the Emira is one of the most beautiful new cars on sale. If you're more interested in uniqueness/looks rather than performance, then it would be worth the switch. It is slower and an outdated engine, with risk of Lotus problems though. If I wanted to spend the money I'd be tempted to change, but I like money a little more, lol. Aston Martin Vantage with MT would be another car I'd consider if I was willing to spend money.

Exotic and rarity will go to the Emira. To be honest, in the world of exotics, the Emira is just average, you'd have to hang out with the regular sports cars to feel the exoticness of the Emira.

Rarity is a double edged sword. The Emira is more rare, but so is the service and aftermarket lol.

I'm not saying you should completely rule out the Emira though, it's got very good formula. If the MT Supra doesn't exist, I would seriously consider an Emira too. Since you mentioned 6-speed, maybe also give the 6-speed Supra a try.

This is a no brainer - your Supra is an automatic and the Lotus would be a 6psd.... I think we all know the answer here: get a manual supra

The 4 cylinder automatic Emira is actually much faster than the 6/manual. If I remember correctly I believe Car and Driver ran an 11.7 in that combo.

I could be wrong though since manuals are faster than autos. ??

I'm assuming you're getting the V6 which is a supercharged Toyota motor, so you won't be lacking in parts for that specifically, but Lotus has other quality control quirks and electrical gremlins. If you're planning on keeping it for a while, make good friends with your local Lotus dealer or use the Lotus forums to figure out what aftermarket or DIY garage fixes work.

The Supra (stock for stock) is quicker in a straight line, and has more aftermarket support, but doesn't share the exclusivity.

I'd choose the Lotus if you have a lot of windy roads in the Austin area, but if you're looking to be the quickest car on the highway, look elsewhere.

I know everyone is giving the Lotus the nod in "exoticness", but we're all car guys. I honestly don't know that a non-car person would recognize that the Lotus is the more exotic one, unless they recognize the Toyota emblem on the Supra.

This is easy, would rather drive a car that Boomers mistake for a C7 Corvette? Or one they’ll mistake for a C8 Corvette?
Which do you think looks like which?
