I’m also approaching my break in service soon. I’m doing my rear diff as well. My buddy that works at BMW service said the break in service for M cars include rear diff. He showed me the oil from one of the car he did recently and it had metal shavings in it… I also considered doing the transmission as well but we’ll see. I bought the 5W-30 kit from FCPEuro. If you haven’t used it before, their lifetime replacement program is great

That sounds like a whole lot!
Is it really necessary for all that?
Ya my friend was telling me about that, but always thought he was messing with me. The only issue though is return shipping is kinda expensive so I don't know if its really worth returning oil to FCPEuro.

Cause M cars come with thinner mineral oil so require a break in service at 1200 to go back to thicker synthetic. Not our cars tho. We aren’t kool enough to be in the M circle. But i did do the “break in” service at 1200. Oil was clean with zero signs of shavings. Although i didn’t do the diff service at 1200 some memebers did theirs and reported no signs of flakes. Some even skip the diff service and did it at the recommended interval and fluid still showed clean. So up to you. Just do what makes you not worry 😂

I was actually thinking about getting quickjacks but its definitely pricey. I did some research and at one point QuickJack would sell their products for a huge difference (I read somewhere Costco was selling 5000tl model for like 900) from how much they are charging now. Wish I made the purchase before honestly... but it is what it is haha.

If anyone knows the best place to buy QuickJacks please do let me know as I also ordered the oil kit from FCP EURO to do it myself.

Honestly gonna switch the downpipe and exhaust myself at this rate if I just buy the QuickJacks.
It’s been like 5 years ago now but I found a QuickJacks bundle online from Home Depot of all places. It was an outstanding deal. Picked up the 7000 model, truck adapters, and wall hangers for less than what QuickJacks wanted for just the jacks. With that set up I’ve recouped my investment several times over by doing all maintenance and mod work for not only the Supra but also my DD Malibu, the wife’s Old F150, Daughters F150, and now the wife’s new Wrangler. I highly recommend getting a 7000 instead of the 5000. Gives you the ability to work on everything except the really ginormous vehicles.

I used to be able to fit the whole return in a USPS flat rate. I’m not sure about this kit for the Supra yet. But will find out soon!

right. At the end of the day it’s still a German car so doing the extra will definitely give me a peace of mind haha

I'm curious, is the clearance ever a bother for the supra? I do have a 1999 jeep wrangler I've been working on 👀

Hey guys!

I am approaching the 1200 miles mark very soon and I thought to ask if people are supposed to change their oil then. Called my dealership and they said Toyota care covers oil changes at 10,000 miles which I think is a joke. They also mentioned that they have no break in service for the supras and they say its fine for 10,000 miles which is hard to believe haha.

Also I know the forum discussions about type of oil is a long one... never understood why if someone can explain.

What do yall recommend for those who had to deal with a break in period?

(Also reason why I'm asking because my friend with an M2 had a whole service check at 1200 miles)
1. Change the oil... 10,000 miles with 0w20... lol
2. The day you pick up the car should be the last day Toyota sees it
...
...
42. Buy a KLM stage 1 engine

I’m lowered (.8 inch) and have to drive the fronts onto a 1x4 for clearance. Rears clear. On factory height they clear with no issues.

completed my comp'd service at 1200. went to a dealer recommended by a fellow member on here. since mine is not a daily, i'll likely do the next one at 6200 +/-, since it'll be comp'd as well. as others mentioned, do as you like whichever puts you at ease. maybe youtube the oil change. it does appear rather simple.

They said they couldn't do that and they wanted to charge me 350...sickening honestly LOL
I thought I’d get pushback about it, but they didn’t say anything at all. Like they’re used to dealing with Supra people haha. It is the highest Toyota dealer by volume in my state so they probably see a lot of them.

If you’re at stock height, Race Ramps would work for changing oil. I got a used set off Facebook so I could install a high flow cat. At stock height, my car clears by a few mm. If it was lowered, I’d need the longer and more expensive 2 piece set.

I've read quite a few comments by those who did 500, 1200, or 3000-mile first oil changes. Most said the oil looked very clean. Any metal particles were trapped by the filter. That's why I had my first oil changed at the Toyota dealership at 4100 miles. The next one will probably be at <10,000 miles.
As a Lexus moderator for years, I've noticed that very few 250,000+ mile owners had their first oil changed before 5000 miles. I'd be over 100 years old before any of my cars reaches 250,000 miles, so I'm not worried about a super-early oil change. I did properly break-in my car by staying under 4500 rpm and 100 mph for the 1200 miles.

+1 for Quickjacks. I use a floor jack to put my front tires on scrap wood for clearance on MSS lowering springs. The HF ramps would not work for clearance. I also tried the Race Ramps wheel cribs but it was such a pain to get the car up 12 inches, I gave up lol.
