Long time lurker here, I haven't had anything useful to contribute here in the past, but I felt like I should share this with the community. I have been working on this cold ram air duct. There are a lot of other solutions out there, but none of them seem very well thought out. I don't want to cut my bumper, or lose a headlight. My car is a MT, so it doesn't have the front radar. That whole space behind the bumper is just wasted behind a fake grill, all while the OEM air duct is sucking hot air right behind the headlight.

This is what I came up with. Here is my 3D printed prototype:

I also tested this with Supras that have the front radar. Everything fits the same, except the radar gets removed and the error messages need to be coded out (no more adaptive cruise control, but most people I know don't use it anyways).

It is split into 2 parts as space is tight and it makes installation a lot easier. Everything bolts on and clips in just like a OEM part. There is a little trimming of the black plastic part behind the grill that holds the radar, but the piece is cheap and easily replaceable if needed.

I am thinking about making the exterior grill trim in satin finished prepreg carbon fiber, and the inner duct in black/yellow kevlar (just to have a cool looking yellow highlight inside the bumper).

Lower intake air temps would most likely be the main benefit, but just for fun, I played around with some flow simulations. This is comparing just opening up the front fake vent versus having a duct direct the air into the intake at 100km/h. The duct seems to work well, reducing turbulence, increasing intake velocity, and improving pressure recovery. Might not mean too much though because of the air filter and other restrictions, but it is still cool to see the comparison.

Couple questions for everyone:
-MT and Base AT models have no issues, but if you own a Supra that has the adaptive cruise control radar, would you delete it to install this?
-What about making the inner duct out of yellow kevlar? All black carbon wouldn't be as noticeable.

I have an AT and I think it would be worth the coding effort for something like this. The adaptive cruise is too conservative anyway. Do you know if coding it out would affect anything else like parking sensors? Definitely want to keep that.

Your solution would also free up the bumper (and the void directly behind) for something else like the trackbuilt duct that mimics the gt4 car.

No preference on color or material on my side. Great idea, hope i can get my hands on one soon.

It should not affect parking sensors. I will be experimenting with my friend’s AT and hopefully come up with an easy recoding solution.

This looks awesome! I have a MT and would buy this in a heartbeat. Are you planning on selling the stl files or a completed product?

Closest I've found is this but your version looks so much better:

Thanks man! The end product won't be 3D printed. The idea is to make it out of prepreg carbon fiber. 3D printing is amazing for prototyping, but I want a professional high end part.

I am still working on the mold. The main part is done, next to do are the clips. The mold is solid CNC machined 6061 billet aluminum. Prepreg carbon will be autoclave cured just like how F1 and supercar parts are made.

If there is enough interest I can make it available for everyone to purchase. But might need to get an admin’s approval if they consider it a commercial post. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Interested. Was looking at the Speed Engineering otherwise since it's just a cut on plastic trim and hidden.

Agree with the above. I would pay money, today, for the orange printed prototype in the first post. The surface finish from your printer looks pretty professional as it is.

I’d be interested in an OEM style as well.
Another vote for OEM/stealth look. This is a great design and good info about the void behind the missing radar sensor. Was thinking of doing the speed engineering duct before this.
