The trend has been for high performance sports cars to go pure DCT or auto only. Think Toyota would screw the manual enthusiasts and only give the FT-1 / Supra a DCT or auto transmission?

That would be funny and sad if FR-S has a manual and the Supra didn't.

I'm all for technology and a dual clutch shifts faster than I ever could. And I'll be able to actually use the car as a daily if I want.

It might be fun but I think it'd get old like playing a video game after a while.

And if you dont build a manual you're losing that part of the potential buyers who will only buy a sports car with manual (like me). Guess Toyota bean counters will weigh the potential extra sales from offering manual vs development costs of adding a manual.

Wouldn't be surprised 1 bit if no manual coming. Most companies don't make them anymore.

Most companies don't have the balls to do it but I don't blame them. The take rate for manuals on some cars that do offer it still is like extremely low.

The success of offering a manual probably has a lot to do with the type of car it's offered on. The FR-S/BRZ manual rate of purchase is really high, but that could have to do with the younger buyers that it attracts wanting to do the manual labor of rowing own gears. More expensive cars with older buyers might want a DCT/auto?

Tetsuya Tada the same guy who headed up engineering for entire FR-S and BRZ project is heading the FT-1 too so there's hope for a manual for the Supra or whatever it'llb e called yet.

What's worse is if the FT-1 somehow gets neither a manual nor DCT but only an auto like the Lexus RC-F! :puke:

No way no how. RC-F is a Lexus and it doesn't have the Supra's legacy to live up to. It'll have more performance than the RC-F all around and that calls for a MT or DCT.

RC F and IS F to gain a "manual-shift gearbox"

Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) unveiled the Lexus LS Sports 650 concept a few years ago and it fueled speculation about a high-performance sub-brand.

We haven't heard much about TMG models since then but the company's Director of Business Operations, Rob Leupen, has revealed "I don't think you will find in the next four or five years a TMG car in any dealership." Leupen went on to say the Sports 650 concept won't be going into production despite earlier reports that it could arrive as early as next year. As he explained, "The LS for us is a showcase, it had nearly everything changed."

Despite downplaying plans for production models, Leupen confirmed TMG is working on a "manual-shift gearbox" for the Lexus RC F and IS F. Speaking of the latter model, he hinted it could use hybrid technology.
