Yup. Had three 335i coupes and nothing but problems with HPFP, wastegates, bad injectors, water pumps... All within 15-18k miles. The cars spent more time on the tow truck than the track.

One thing I will say, however, is I bought the 335i used and will never buy a used BMW again (it was even CPO). I've had nothing but good luck so far with my 340i through 8,000 miles.

Can't say I personally disagree with most of the above. To me, the R35 is butt ugly and auto only. The RC-F loses to the competition and auto only. LC500 also loses to the competition and is auto only. Not sure I agree that the MKV "needs" to be in the six figure range, but I would certainly like it more if it was an in-house competitive Toyota/Lexus product. With regards to the A80 re-release, we all know it would never happen, but thanks for the lol's. Again, to each their own. Carry on gents...

Same here, with that said let's not pretend Toyota didn't toy around with the idea of an in-house Supra/halo sports car. Let's recall in 2007 with the FT-HS concept. But as usual the internet and SF came in with their negative comments like 'fugly front" and "LOL V6", so I'm not surprised that they canned the project. Just speculation on my part, but when gathering feedback for the new Supra, Toyota most likely skimmed a glanced over on SF and those comments about how a real GT-R must have an I6 probably didn't help the case of an in-house V6 drivetrain.

08’ 650i -passenger heated seat didn’t work
00’ X5 4.0-replaced the radiator at 150k
08’ E60 M5- no issues
15’ X5M- No problems yet (still driving)

I know there are a lot of problems with BMWs, however, I have a theory, likely this is just something I tell myself to make myself feel better.

BMWs depreciate like crazy, that opens the market to buyers who might be able to afford to buy one, but not afford to maintain them. Let’s face it, generally speaking, forums are visited by a younger crowd.

Now people start throwing on the mods and having issues. When really they should have been baselining their cars before doing anything to it. Once they have issues, they hop on the forums and share their dismay.

I am not saying others who have posted in this thread fall into the above scenario. Looks like one of you even bought your BMW new and had constant problems. That sucks and is unacceptable.

We know there are tons of computers which add expense when repairing, as well, the parts cost more and finding a good mechanic can also be an issue. All of it adds up, and to some people, they would never buy a BMW because of the above reasons.

Toyota and BMW are my 2 favorite car brands, obviously for different reasons. I truly enjoy the driving experience in my X5M, I look forward to it. Although, I haven’t had any issues with it, repairs are always on my mind. My Lexus LX470 I love for another reason, it is indestructible, even with 240k miles on it.

I am one of the few that embraced the partnership between BMW and Toyota. If we can come out of this with a performance car that drives like a BMW, with the reliability of a Toyota, we all win.

Some good replies and points of view along with some horrible blanket statement ones intent on rifting a divide. The statement that supraforums all share the same point of view is one that only looks at the opinions and comments that shape your narrative on here. Maybe I'm crazy, I like the gtr, I like the rcf, I like the lc500 (drove one for the weekend for supras in Vegas) drove the Zupra and I dont hate the car, as I've shared on supraforums I only dislike Toyotas decision not to make the car in house and that for some reason toyota apologists need to defend and make countless excuses for why they think that happened when the obvious one is right there for all to see.
I was a Toyota supra enthusiast since 1992 when I went for a drive in my uncle's brand new 1992 mk3 turbo. I'm down for changes and improvement, the supra handles and drives great, quick (not nearly fast enough for such a long hiatus).

This "us vs. them" mentality is toxic and is equally pervasive on both sides of coin.

The FT-HS was slated to be the new Supra until the economy tanked. According to a few executives I've spoke with about this, it was already in development for production and would have been released sometime around 2011-2012 had the economy not failed. It was designed as 2+2, cockpit interior, and focused more on being a sports car than GT.

2008 is really when much of Toyota lost its soul too. A whole bunch of the OG people were still around before that, many new projects were in the pipeline, and it seemed like the Toyota of the 80s and 90s could make a comeback especially with Akio's rise to power. So for any would-be time travelers out there, if you want to save Toyota and gain the cars you say that you want, then go back and make sure the GFC never happens.

Had the economy not failed, we would likely have an all in-house 86 and an A100 by now. In fact, they started the 86 development in house and the board wouldn't approve the project until the joint venture with Subaru was proposed. Had the board not been terrified of financial losses, that would not have been an issue... And unsurprisingly they still expected the 86 to fail and that they would use that as leverage against Akio and such projects in the future if need be. Thankfully it was a success and did the opposite, but we are still seeing the effects of people worried about profit loss.

What do possibly want from people defending Toyota's decision?

The decision has been made already and there is nothing anyone can do to rewrite history. The divide isn't those who wanted the car to be something else vs those who are making excuses for Toyota. The divide is those who have gotten over it and made the best of the situation, and those who haven't.

Would it be cool if the car had C8 levels of price and performance with the FT-1 body and a 6mt? Yeah I do. But it didn't happen and complaining on the internet isn't going to change that. Defending the car isn't saying Toyota made the right choice, it is making the best of the decision.

Why can't people enjoy their cars? Sounds like some of them certainly are. I dont want anyone to agree or disagree with my opinion, just facts. I think that's the confusion some people are experiencing, they think people are actually mad at them personally or something for liking the mkv or owning it. I dont know how anyone can actually be upset at another human being for owning something as trivial as a car. People can share their opinions on things and why things happened, facts can only be derived from actuality of a situation. No one can change them. I'd like to think people who purchased the mkv can be the most understanding bunch...like most of them know and are aware of all the trivial bullshit regarding the car being a non toyota product but can also appreciate it as a car they love driving and looking at.

I've been on supraforums since it was a mailing list, forums in general are a dying thing but the die hard and original owners will stick to them as theirs a wealth of knowledge on them to help keep these aging cars on the road.

My question to you is why do you think everything has to be entirely one way or the other?

I stopped buying US designed cars some time back. I just don't care for the quality, in general. Toyota has met more of my expectations, though I am not always happy with the dealerships.
