Supra wins another round here.

BTW the funny thing is, by the test from Sport Auto, M2 Comp is almost the same slower than Supra, although IMO M2 Comp should be faster since Nürburgring is a high speed track.

I've watched it a few times now, not sure how Supra got in the lead in that straight ahead right after the corner... They were neck and neck and M2 consistently carried slightly higher speed.
I guess, regardless, despite being lower on power Supra is a match for M2.

He mentions he was getting brake fade on the M2 by the last few turns... my guess is that if the brakes were a little more up to the task, the M2 would have still had that .2 sec lead it had through much of the first part. Stock for stock I'd guess it comes down to a nominal weight difference assuming they were on the stock pads in the Supra, as it's hardly "track-ready" either. At least looking at people's gunky rotors that have done hard tracking in theirs on this site. ;) Now I've got to see what the gripe was on the street... I must have missed that video. Seems there isn't one since this is the first episode in the series.

Randy is back on throttle earlier almost every corner exit in the Supra. Although the stock settings can feel soft it also allows you to overdrive a bit and control how you transfer weight. The m2 suspension is sharper but also more likely to let go if you're too aggressive. Third sector Randy made up a good half second as his cork screw entry and exit was smoother and faster. That cascaded through the final few corners... That's what I saw at least. I can ask him in a few days though.

Edit: a bit more of his feedback

I didn't watch the whole video, but the M2C (I own one) gets it's power dialed back in lower gears (otherwise it would be severely limited by traction, more than it already is) so any advantage of the S55 engine over the B58/ZF8 comes in higher gears at higher speeds. In lower speed corners I am not surprised to see the Supra have an advantage and it's more composed and manageable compared to the M2C. People tend to automatically assume an M car will be superior, but the Supra has an ideal combination of power and handling and is more amenable to let a driver dial it in.

I am surprised about the brakes, and there have been other reviews where the M2C's brakes did not perform up to snuff. Spec wise, the M2C brakes are in a different world than the Supra, with much larger drilled rotors (size of a large pizza) and more serious calipers and pads. There should be a world of difference between them, and indeed that was my observation owning the M2C and test driving the Supra. I'd say the Supra brakes are more akin to what you'd get in an M-sport BMW package versus an M car. Given that we have seen several reviewers/magazines comment on the M2C brakes, it makes me wonder if it's the same couple of M2C press cars that are getting beat on. Somebody at BMW USA needs to look into it.

Care to share any of your thoughts on the M2C versus the Supra based on your firsthand experience? I'm cross shopping them at the moment. My choice will be my daily driver, year round, and on some increasingly bad roads. I've only had the opportunity to drive the M2C thus far. While firm I found it livable compared to what I'm used to with my modified Miatas and VW GTI.

The Supra is more comfortable in terms of ride, but smaller and more cramped on the inside. The M2C has a sedan feel versus low sports car in the Supra, so sitting inside each car is very different. That could potentially sway someone one way or another when it comes to a daily driver.

I feel like the M2C is more fun to drive, and more involving. Part of that is the manual transmission, which sadly is not available on the Supra. But in general the Supra has more of a GT feel while the M2C is more like a puppy. They each have a unique feel in the handling department. I think the Supra's steering has better on-center feel on the highway, but on a curvy road, both are good.

I may be a little tainted, since I have owned (and still own one) several BMWs with the B58 / ZF8 powertrain. I feel like it's a first rate combination, but it makes the Supra feel like many other M-sport BMWs in terms of the powertrain. In contrast, the M2C really felt different all the way around. If I had to describe it I'd say the Supra is an improved BMW M-sport model while the M2C is its own animal.

In terms of looks, no contest to me that the Supra is stunning and the M2C is a bit homely. But I also like that the M2C is anonymous to 99% of people on the road (especially if you can keep the exhaust noise down).

The M2C had been constrained, but supply (and pricing) loosened up in the last part of 2019. You should be able to get 5-6% discount from MSRP now. I don't know what discounts can be had on Supras, but those have good availability now and I think dealer attitudes have shifted. They are more likely to want to move a Supra off the lot compared to the early behaviors with markups, etc.

This makes me really excited about the future models of the MK5 Supra, the current car is such a good start and Toyota is gonna refine it even more over time

Thanks so much for the lengthy response! I've yet to drive the M2C with a manual. Still rather curious what I'll think of that transmission. Sometimes it feels like the Miatas and S2000s I've driven have spoiled me in that regard.

The S2K manual was one of the best ever, and the M2C isn't quite in that league. However, it's pretty good (some BMW manuals have been lousy, but the one in the M2C is pretty good). I enjoy it. Took me a while to get used to the rev-matched downshifts though.

I’m surprised you fly under the radar with your M2C. For sure I’ve generated more stages in the Supra but I find the M2C still draws a lot of attention when I drive it especially considering car culture here in so cal.

regardless both cars definitely have their merits and have been thoroughly enjoying both!

I heard next year its gonna have 50 more horse power allegedly:popcorn:
Yeah the M2CS model is getting bumped to 445hp

Real world power between the 2 cars is very close. And the M2 is 300lbs heavier right? It shows on the tight corners and below 90mph. After that the M2 is clearly faster in a straight line
