IMO, it makes far more sense to release a 250hp 86 as the step below the Supra. Then you're not paying the higher cost, you can choose transmission option, and not get stuck with a lower performance engine in comparison to a higher trim :)
Amen

$40k for a 250hp Supra is just a hard sell unless you really love/want the rest of the car and government regulations force you to accept that as the best you can do.

I still want to see a manual option for the Supra (3.0L preferably) but a 250hp *turbo* manual & auto GR86 is very, very welcome!

It definitely makes a lot more sense to keep the Supra as an I6 to better differentiate it from its little brother in both specs and price point (transmission types aside).

A70, I suppose this makes the case for that (loosely planned by Tada but not yet produced) 2.0L 280hp B48 Supra for Japan an even harder business case? Or conversely... maybe an even easier business case (for Japan) once the GR86 is launched with 250hp or so.

Even at 280hp it would still be a mediocre value IMO, but it's certainly better than 250. That said, the segment is super weird like I said before; it's someone that wants a premium interior/tech features/chassis, but doesn't care as much about the added output and/or is forced by laws to use the smaller engine (many areas tax on displacement and output).

So that person is far less likely to cross shop an 86, but in terms of product stack and the rest of the world the 86 with a power bump makes a lot more sense. Most folks would rather have that 250hp coupe for low to mid 30s (myself included) with a cheaper chassis and equipment.

Toyota has to tread really carefully if they come out with the 4cyl for US market, it will cause problems for the 86

Not sure bout you, but even Toyota bring 2L Supra, not a lot of ppl gonna cross shop mid $40k Supra and low $30k 86. +-$10k difference is a big difference to cross shop. Hell, most of the buyer who's interesting in 86 can barely afford 86 price (of course, there are very few exception buyers).

I do believe 86 and Supra can live together without an issue even 2L Supra came out worldwide. Chevrolet have been doing fine w Camaro and Corvette for several decades (recently Corvette went into MR).

All I'm praying for from 86 & Supra is keep both character different and don't make it same... which we see so often from all the brands.

Comparing Corvette volume to Supra volume isn't the same. It has to make business sense to Toyota when the volume is low, the game is different than Corvette, Camaro comparison.

Nope, that system has very little information ( no pricing, no specs, ect) just lets us place a preference mode code, color, and options.

We're getting closer to the manual if the 2.0T is coming

What I've seen shows no more Downshift Blue. Does that look to be gone from your system as well?

Also, I don't yet see any special edition model with Misano Blue. Anything on that from your end?

Aside, A70TTR... on your cars list it says you now have a Toyota Crown Athlete. I don't want to derail this thread topic but briefly, how do you like that car?

That looks the same on my end with no Downshift blue, I missed that first time I looked. That sucks as we just sold one in that color at my store and it is beautiful. Every day people would come in and say "I usually don't like blue cars but I like that".
