Toyota has been waaay too quiet about their products that are just around the corner (Corolla GR, Tundra, Land Cruiser/LX, etc). It feels like we’re watching paint dry waiting for more info on this Corolla

Interesting analysis here from an ex-Toyota engineer as to how Toyota may modify the Corolla hatch chassis in general to make a GR/Sport GRMN Corolla version for the U.S. and Canada.

I had thought that hydrogen internal-combustion was a route that all automakers had abandoned. VERY interesting.

The 1.6L inline-three from the GR Yaris is getting quite a lot of use. Nice to finally see a video of it in the Corolla hatch.

From this Motor1 article: https://www.motor1.com/news/504287/toyota-corolla-hydrogen-combustion-engine/

"Its hydrogen engine emits close to zero CO2 emissions when in use, 'except for the combustion of minute amounts of engine oil during driving.' Toyota goes on to say these engines 'burn hydrogen while taking in oxygen in the air, as in the case with gasoline engines, a certain amount of NOx is created in the process.'

By keeping the ICE alive, it means the Corolla hatch here can still deliver a pretty good engine soundtrack while being nearly carbon neutral. The work-in-progress prototype with a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine gets its juice from renewable energy produced at the Fukushima Hydrogen Energy Research Field in Japan."

The only major drawback (current refueling infrastructure aside) will probably be the fuel economy but in a little 1.6L I-3 turbo it might not be horrible. For a race car it doesn't matter.

The only glaring thing missing is the four piston front and two piston rear brake package from the GR Yaris. Those sliding calipers will get overwhelmed easily under hard driving. Otherwise it looks the part. I like the flared front and rear fenders, revised bumpers and vented hood.

Just stumbled across this. They talk about the origin of Gazoo Racing as well.
