it's unfortunate, but it still doesnt mean that cant add it later... it happened with the IS300 of all things and it's the same story with other brands/models too.

but yeah man, the ZL1 is a totally different beast at that weight, but Guff and I had both mentioned in another thread how great it is and to lesser degree the Z28 and Ford GT350 are.

for they money, they offer crazy performance.

I am not a fan of rev matching manual. In that case buy an auto/dct, it also rev matches instead of you. I am also not a fan of hill start assist. Does not work for every situation.
I don't care if they add these things, but I would like to see menu options to turn them off. If they have that, I'm game for whatever.

Thanks for sharing this. For some reason I feel less disappointed with the whole lack of manual now...

Since it's all about money; as this poll grow or the loss of prospects whom expected a manual may get things moving...perhaps?

P.s.: Speaking of going for another car; I never imagined I would enjoy a 3800lb Camaro! Test drove a "manual" ZL1: A friggen rocket! (albeit as heavy as one too :p) always considred muscle cars as straight line only machines; but daaamn I was wrong; big time! Wasn't even 1LE equipped

The Camaros and Mustangs offer some real bang for their buck in the higher trims. I don't have much personal experience driving them but the Z28 and GT350 supposedly handle very well and hide their weight well around the track. Not to mention they come with a manual and can make decent dailys with a back seat.

have you not driven a modern TC? Either the 8 speed from AISIN or ZF, they don't exhibit the behaviors you are concerned with, they nearly have the same programming as a modern auto DCT...they don't auto upshift or downshift (unless revvs are < 1 K) and many BMWs with the ZF8 feature proper launch control. As far as weight is concerned pretty sure DCTs are the heaviest out of the 3 options as TCs don't weigh that much more than a traditional stick (only a 50 pound difference between 86's manual and TC).
Programming, exactly. Yes you can program an auto to explicitly hold gears, or program a DCT to force shifts, but thats not the norm.

50lbs on a 2800lb car? Thats pretty huge. But maybe the DCT is worse, the M4 DCT version weighs 88lbs more then the 6 speed o_O

But the power loss is undeniable. I've driven the auto 86 and the manual back to back on track and the auto car felt anemic in comparison. It shifted nice enough, but very noticeable acceleration dip.

I don't know, I hate TC autos, but replacing DCT clutches on a BMW is gonna suck. Lets hope we get a real stick.

The one thing about the 86 AT versus MT is that the gearing is relatively different, so while what you feel is definitely attributed to the fact that it's an AT, the gear ratios play a pretty big role too.

Overall Gearing (AT/Early MT/Late MT; :1):
1: 14.51 / 14.87 / 15.59
2: 8.45 / 8.97 / 9.41
3: 5.76 / 6.32 / 6.63
4: 4.10 / 4.97 / 5.22
5: 2.92 / 4.10 / 4.30
6: 2.39 / 3.14 / 3.30

That said, if you don't have multipler versions of the car to compare, things get trickier to know, haha.

No, I'm not big into aftermarket stuff. Intake, exhaust, and wheels are fine but an aftermarket tranny... I'm not that brave. I like to buy cars that are close to what I want stock.

No manual = no supra for me.
I love my Toyota Sports cars.

But I'm actually thinking of getting a used Nismo 370Z instead due to the 6 speed manual.

I just cant imagine enjoying driving an automatic... sure the Supra looks amazing, but I suppose I have to drive it and see if its fun.

What I don't understand is why Toyota would introduce a manual in the new Corolla 2019 - https://www.yahoo.com/news/2019-toyota-corolla-hatchback-im-035800560.html

The only thing the Corolla has for it is the mass numbers it sells. So to conclude Toyota isn't stopping manual production, they're just focusing on numbers (the corporate thing) from what I can tell.

I've been looking forward to the Supra for the last 5 years, literally. Unfortunately I won't drive auto - if I wanted to drive an auto car I would drive a Camry/Corolla etc.

/end rant.

A70... I’m a bit confused now.. does the BMW withdrawal from Detroit auto show have any impact in Toyota showing the Supra there next year?

Also deeply saddened that a manual will not be offered..... I guess I’ll take my money somewhere else.

Just interviewed the Chief Engineer of the new Corolla Hatch. He had some interesting stuff to say about the manual transmission and Toyota Safety Sense.... ;)

Yeah I'll post the interview when I get the chance. Basically, Toyota Safety Sense is fully compatible with the manual transmission. And when asked if future Toyotas are going to have manual transmissions, he said, "Yes, I am hoping", so take that as you will.

When I asked about the Supra, a swarm of PR people jumped up and said, "NO NO NO, we can only talk about the Corolla"
