Guess we all familiar with the issue.
Got 13km/8000miles mileage on the car and recently, the warning came on JUST around 3000km/1900miles after the last oil change so:

1. Is topping off annually without oil change is fine?

Planning to shorten the intervals anyway.

2. Will there be a long term unreliability with car burning so much oil?

I don’t mind stocking few litres of oil in the trunk but just concern more about life expectancy and more issues to come.

3. Is mixing viscosity bad?

4. Has anybody ever solve the problem other than changing to thicker viscosity because it didn’t seems to work for me… the dealer recommended Mobil1 0w-40 to “solve” the issue but then again.. it happened after 3000+km/1900miles so i topped off Liqui Moly Top Tec 4600 5w-30 after
living in tropical hot humid country

Elaboration and more information are welcome.
Thanks!

0 weight oil is very thin and good for MPG
They use it to eek out the EPA mileage ratings
You'll be ok switching to a 5W-30
I went to a 5w-40 on my F80 on the track days and back to 5w-30 for the street

I've never had a vehicle that adding a little oil for slightly used consumption between oil changes has been a problem. I don't imagine the Supra to be any different. Other than adding small amounts slowly since we have to check again/measure via the computer. No dipstick ?

Well if you keep pushing the dealership they will opt to try and replace the pistons and rings. When they did this on my 21’ the engine blew after 150 miles. I’m now on a six month wait list for a new long block.

First question would be: Did it get topped off properly since your last oil change?

If you started below or at bottom of max indicator. It could just be low from normal consumption.

Do yourself a favor and check the oil level is in mm via an OBD app. iDrive max is 85mm, new oil change max is 97mm.

You can top off at any point. Be sure to try and use same viscosity oils for this. I’m sure mixing in a bind is fine until next oil change.

Don’t look at the first number of 0w, the second number is the more important.

You never want the first number too high for a turbo car bc that’s cold temp rating. You want the turbo to flow to the turbo fast and a thin cold temp oil is the best.

So if you want to run a thicker oil. Do a 0w30…. The second number is for hot temperature rating…
You can run the 0w40 as well. That’s what the Skyline GTR run factory.

Wait, what? My dealer has told me the same thing about my '21 - that I'll likely get new pistons and rings - but I've been waiting almost a year for a fix and now have 22,000km on the car. Ugh, I'm nervous and need to stop reading the forum posts about this haha

It’s a complicated problem and Toyota put me through a surprisingly significant amount of work and time for what seemed a simple engine replacement.

Did you do the “break in” or just ran her hard?
I did pretty much a fair measure of soft break-in. Only went over 4k RPM once in a while for the first 1600km and never touch sport mode for the first 600km.
I read somewhere that some might suspect soft breaking-in might cause this problem..? Weird

Book says under 5k RPM for 1200 miles and under 100 MPH. I have 200 miles to go, but I have been driving around it sport mode for like the last 400 miles keep the RPM higher.
