Just saw a headline from Car and Driver stating this. I must admit that it’s not completely surprising, but shocking nonetheless.

Certainly won’t hurt the values of our cars. Makes me even happier about my A91-MT purchase.

It won’t be 100% electric, but it will be hybrid. Most likely it will retain the 2.0 turbo H4 and and a hybrid system. If they make it all electric it will just be faster than the 911 Carrera and they don’t want that.

The Macan will be all electric.

The article implies all electric.

This is one of the worst kept secrets in auto-dom. It's been long known the 2025 Boxster/Cayman were going full EV.
and that's the worst decision they made since i4 engine.
like who thought "hmm people hated the i4, but will love the EV for sure"..

I won’t lie. I’m atleast kinda curious. 3600 lbs and 1000hp with porsche handling and styling?? Hell, I’ll just make fart exhaust noises with my mouth if I miss the Supra sounds :p

There will be so many hybrid and electric sports cars hitting the market the next 3-7 years that you'll have fomo every year if you look at all this the wrong way. Maybe it's time we shut this forum down and start the MKVI Forum since we know it will be electric and likely faster than the current MKV.

But if we wanted faster we'd all just have bought the Tesla Plaid already. ?‍♂

No surprise to anyone who's been paying attention. VAG has been talking about EV Cayman/Boxsters for a long time.

I'm very curious to see how one of these would stand up to a typical track day with 5-7x 25 minute sessions. I assume these will need to charge between sessions on the track. Will that be a problem with hot batteries?

For that matter, how will they handle charging at racetracks?

How will they handle the fires?

Seems the Corvette people said nope to the whole idea.

You can look at it two ways in my opinion. You can be sad that the ICE sports cars are on the way out, or be excited to see what a company like Porsche can do with an EV sports car. If anyone is going to make an EV sports car worth owning, I feel like it would be Porsche.

This is the future, not that I agree with this future, but it's what will happen. If Porsche can somehow make the Cayman/Boxster both fast and fun to drive, and maybe in the process build/sell enough to keep the ICE in the 911, then I'm cool with that.

I'm not sure exactly how they'll be able to keep the 911 faster AND have the Cayman/Boxster cheaper. Typically EV's are pricy, remember this is not like GM/Ford where they are okay pumping out EV's at a loss, Porsche is very much so about profit from each vehicle they make.

And if you think that news is bad, how about the Vette SUV/CUV thingy that is rumored to be coming out. I'm still waiting on the SUV/CUV craze to stop but it just keeps chugging away.

Part of this decision could be the EU’s standard of fleet CO2 emissions. Essentially, in order for Porsche to sell a GT3 RS they would have to sell so many Taycans to offset the emissions or they will have to pay a hefty fine. These regulations are just getting stricter and stricter and perhaps they just weren’t selling enough electrified vehicles.
