It's literally the worst programmed lane departure system on the market, by far. It thinks the tar snakes are lane markers too, and darts around trying to follow them.

This just adds to the fun IMO ;)

I really like the extra features that the premium gives you, I've never own a car with a HUD so it pretty fancy to me, and I like the JBL speakers, for someone who isn't a speaker enthusiast, they sound great to me.

The most aggravating is the thousand spent on the lane departure that simply sucks rocks. Total highway robbery. I get more value out of the stupid mirror caps than the lane departure.
Lane keeping does suck (but can be turned off), but the blind spot monitoring and parking sensors have been clutch for me. Blind spots are huge on this car. Also a fan of the HUD and wireless charging on the Premium.

All-in-all, if you got the base and never knew what you were missing, you'd probably still be really happy with it. I definitely bristled at paying extra for this stuff to get one of the few MT's around me, but I don't regret it one bit (even like the overpriced carbon fiber mirrors). I do wish it came with the base seats though.

The only, literally ONLY reason I went with the premium is the larger rear brakes. Everything else I either turned off or don’t use. Hell, I even unplugged the wireless charger.

I bought my car in March of 2020. They had five Supras on the lot. The Launch addition had a $20K markup, the three Premiums had $5K markup, and the lone base was MSRP. The base turned out to be perfect for me. Not only was it the color I wanted (red) but it also had virtually all the features of the Premium ordered as standalone options. The only things it doesn't have are HUD, rear Brembos, and leather (which I did not want).

I have a 3.0 base, only thing I regretted was CarPlay, but then I got it added. The full suede seats sold me, and it was available, lol…
I'm definitely leaning towards a base 3.0 for the microfiber seats. Leather is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Plus, the microfiber just grips you better.

Just a heads up (terrible choice of words), if you wear polarized sunglasses the HUD is pointless.
I think I’ve heard before that the HUD doesn’t work great with polarized lenses. Does it not work at all?

It works, just even if you have it at the brightest setting it’s still pretty dim. Never had a reason to try but wouldn’t be surprised if it would also disappear if you tilt your head one way or the other. For example if you drive with a tall mohawk.

I have two different pairs of sunglasses, one polarized and one non-polarized. With the non-polarized ones the HUD is perfectly visible, just a little dim. However with the polarized sunglasses it more or less vanishes completely... until you tilt your head side to side, then it appears briefly. I've been told it has to do with how the lenses are polarized in a vertical pattern and if you tilt your head the vertical patterning moves with your head and doesn't affect the HUD as badly.

That said, if you need sunglasses in your Supra just get non-polarized lenses. It is quite common for aviation, and many pilot's sunglasses specifically say "non polarized" or "made to view screens".

Besides the HUD and wireless charging and wireless CarPlay you might not be missing much from base to premium and I would say the seats are more desired from the base model. Even so you could always buy some variation of what you are missing if you ever wanted them down the road.

I have a 2023 3.0 MT Supra with the tech/JBL package.

Only difference between it and a premium is the premium has full leather seats and the HUD. Because it has the tech package, I still have the JBL system (which isn’t the best), the same number of speakers, and wireless CarPlay. I don’t care for HUD’s and I prefer the base seats with alcantara and 3 color stitching. Absolutely no regrets whatsoever. In past model years the 3.0 didn’t get red brake calipers. This year, on the manuals at least, you get the red calipers (and I can confirm that they are still in fact 4 piston brembos even on the base 3.0) with silver Toyota Supra logos.

Not sure if your 3.0 that you’re looking at has the tech package or not—most did when I was on the hunt for one. The 3.0’s without the tech package are definitely few and far between. I’d say if it doesn’t come with the safety/tech/JBL package, I’d skip it for one that does. And you can turn off the safety features you don’t want, or at a minimum, minimize their obtrusiveness to your driving!
