Both the AT and MT take oil to run properly so we should start talking about oil.

We should probably also bring the Nissan Z into this discussion. Perhaps also talk about Mustangs, the M2, something about a Z4 maybe.

While we are at it, let’s ask some tire size questions and then also ask about why the insides of our tires are wearing out after putting lowering springs in and not getting an alignment.

I think one of the reasons for the "excuses" is that the whole enthusiast crowd love to hate on autos which makes anyone who buys one feel they have to defend themselves against the inevitable onslaught of negativity. We are all fans of cars here so its a shame you feel you have to get what "the community" approves of to feel accepted. If an AT fits your life best it doesn't make you less of an enthusiast.
As long as enough of you buy MTs to keep the option available on new cars, IDGAF what yall's preferences are lol.

My only objective reason for buying an MT over AT is resale value and depreciation. Anything else is subjective.

Ever since I learned about the supra, I wanted to make it a track day weapon, with a MT one ofc.

If you focus on what you really want this car for - track weapon- there you go. Otherwise the subject can go sideways really fast. The ZF trans is nothing like a VW dual clutch. I can promise you that. Ripping through the gears on track are absolutely bliss!!!! Do you have another manual car you can drive for all the other reasons? Emotional, traffic rowing, being connected, you name the other emotional reasons. If this will be your only car, sounds like you will greatly miss the emotional side of the manual. I still have a manual MX5 that I don’t see myself selling. I like all that emotional shit everyone else is talking about as well.

So back to your true focus. Only you can answer that question. If it’s to be a Track weapon - then save your coin, get the ZF & use all that extra cash for more track days. You won’t regret it one bit.

If you are keeping the car to be maybe super rare or "worth something" in the future - you should get the manual.

Otherwise get the Automatic.

The reason everyone lusts for manuals back in the day is because the automatics were garbage - we are not there anymore...but nostalgia is a powerful drug ;)

Your post is why I don't think manuals will be worth more in the future. Young people don't remember a time when automatics sucked. Even older people that grew up with manuals have out-grown the manual elitism. A friend of mine bought a PDK car, has now decided that all manuals are garbage, and is selling, or automatic swapping all the classic manuals he owns.

Collectors in the future might see a manual and think, "why would I get the worse one?" The 2.0L Supras are more rare than 3.0L, but I don't see those being highly sought after either.

I take offense to this. All joking aside, I totally agree. I'm almost fifty, have been track driving for over twenty years, all manuals and I would still buy the Supra with the auto if I did it all over again. I also dismissed the MK5 Supra at first because it only came in auto at the time. Then I drove one and was like, sold!

I have a MK7 GTI with 5spd and whenever I drive it now I'm like "I guess this is more engaging? Is it?"

I think there's more to it. I'm in my 20s and have never owned an AT car. I know that the majority of miles driven in my future lifetime will be in an autopilot EV or soulless appliance that does most the driving for me.

Why not enjoy the old-fashioned way while we still have that choice? It won't last much longer.

We like MT over AT for the same reason we drive Supras instead of Teslas.

If you really want the man/machine connection I would suggest to start getting into 600/1000cc sport bikes - you get the manual shift and you have to balance your weight around the bike...its really an awesome feeling.

Only thing that sucks is you have to watch out for the teen making a TikTok video in the car that is trying to kill you :/

With the current performance of autos it would appear MT vs AT has reached the oil brand/viscosity and break-in period opinion levels of argument.

Believe me, I wish I could have a bike. My wife's an ER nurse, it's not gonna happen.

I have a 2023 A91 Nitro Yellow with AT. It is fun to drive and for me has great acceleration. Downshifting and cornering isn't as much fun on the AT as it would be on a MT.

I was wondering what the difference is in an A90 and A91?

My previous 2 cars were: 2002 MB SLK230 with MT and yellow (similar to Nitro Yellow) and 2017 MB SLC300 with AT and Black with yellow stripe. Both were Hard Top Convertibles. I preferred to drive the 2002 because of the AT, but it didn't have the blind spot detection, backup camera, or GPS. So for everyday driving, I drove the 2017 MB. I wish the Supra made a Hardtop Convertible or second option a ragtop.

My previous post should have said: I preferred to drive the 2002 MB because of the MT (Manual Transmission).

If only such a thing existed ;) I've heard some convertibles come off the Supra assembly line.

Also, hate to break it to you, but your car is not an A91. A91 is special edition designation only, not 2021+ models as a common misconception.
